This is the thing - he looks quite good at a certain level. But for a team that wants to finish in top 4, he needs to play a lot quicker and be more incisive. The concerning thing for me is that he dwells on the ball quite a lot which slows down our attacks, and this may be down to the fact that he can't pick a pass. At this level (or the level that I want LFC to be at), that simply isn't good enough. Can't dispute his work rate. He works incredibly hard and he can keep possession.
Lallana is suffering from "first year syndrome": I do not know if thats going to extend to second year.
We've only see Markovic have a run at wing back. He's been in and out of the team so he can't gain any confidence - combined with the fact he's been dropped completely. Markovic wasn't great last season but he had some good performances bearing in mind what I wrote above. He's young, raw and moved to a new country. I rather see him played further up the pitch and let him get some confidence and develop - he's no worse than Lallana IMO.
Different players - Tex better in a CM role, Markovic in an advanced role. Both are talented youngsters and both need to playing high level football.
Payet and Ayew both hit the ground running, lets see if they can keep it going. Just after Christmas is the time to look again, the prem is littered with players who had a red hot first half of the season to almost vanish completely in the 2nd then drift into averageness. Milner, done ok nothing to rave about, but I suppose thats the type of player he is. Cech, not been brilliant so far. Looks rusty, all that time on the bench isn't great for a player over 30. Again look again about Christmas time. Shaqiri, not even played yet. £12m looks great, also looks a bit fishy. Think Clyne looks a bargain buy and although not cheap Schneiderlin could turn out to be a great buy, just look at how Soton have struggled in their opening 2.
That's why we wouldn't take him back No, in all seriousness, as JWP says, that bridge has been burnt. No amount of Nivea would put that fire out...
Don't blame you. I think Lallana, Lambert, Shaw got a lot of plaudits when at Soton. But personally, I think Wanyama and Schneiderlin were your best players. Far more important to the team.
And it's no coincidence United have only conceded an own goal so far. SO many people don't get what he does, because he does it quietly, efficiently, and a lot of his effectiveness is movement away from the ball that snuffs out attacks. You look at so many United fans comments saying "meh" about him because he's not about to do a Cruyff turn or shoot from 75 yards like Depay. He's not flash, but hell he's good.
Schneiderlin is a brilliant player - would have him at Liverpool. He and Wanyama were arguably the best CM pairing in the PL last season. They make your back line look a lot better than what they really are. (*cough* Lovren)
Yeah i always thought it was kinda funny that we lost 4/5 first team players last Summer yet no one took Morgan or Wanyama. I know Spurs tried for Morgan but 10m was a joke offer It was weird after the whole 'exodus' and 'fire sale' we still managed to keep 2 of the best midfielders in the league! (Though Morgan was obviously temporary)
It just goes to show that whilst you lost Lallana and co, your team was still good last season and arguably better.
LIVERPOOL have agreed a deal for Real Betis midfielder Dani Ceballos to join the club next summer, according to reports in Spain. Seville-based newspaper Diario de Sevilla claim contact has already been made and the Spain Under-21 international will make the switch next June. While the deal won't go through straight away, the report even goes so far as to suggest a house and car has been arranged to make the transition as smooth as possible. That could be the reason why Liverpool have moved ahead of Arsenal, who are also understood to be interested in the Spain Under-21 international. Ceballos has an £8.5million buy-out clause in his current contract at Betis and will reportedly sign a deal worth £1.1m a year on Merseyside. The 19-year-old has been compared with compatriot Cesc Fabregas and was a mainstay for Betis as they won promotion to La Liga from the Segunda Division last term. He has been capped at various youth levels for his country and was part of the academy at his club's cross-town rivals Sevilla. Liverpool could also make a move for Real Madrid star Asier Illarramendi after missing out on Mateo Kovacic to the Spanish giants. there seems to be an awful lot of joke offers going in to southampton did utd really offer 15mil for mane for instance.... 4 years left on his contract so thats a complete insult. LFC paid the 12.5mil or whatever way that breasks down with one year left Utd paid the 25 for schneiderlin.... yet arsneal wanted to pay nothing for him... not they look short i nthe area and utd don't. ooops wanyama has a rep form celtic that he's a bit of a loose cannon. I'm sure if he keeps going the way he is someone will be in again
City have signed Otamendi Needed a CB so they've got one. Guess he's one they're hoping can make the step up. 32mill is a lot of money for the guy
