Has Rooney peaked as a striker? Ian Wright wasn't impressed with his overall game (on MOTD) and they discussed whether he has peaked and we have seen the best of him.

I think he's always functioned better with support up top; his partnerships with RVN, RVP, Tevez and Berba amongst others were genuinely frightening. He can't run the line as a lone striker.

He looks rather average at the moment

Would be funny if he was dropped by England being a goal or 2 from Bobby Charlton's record <laugh>

Three games into the season. Rooney was playing in England games in June, then traipsing about on tour. Plus

This has been the problem. Playing for England in June, then traipsing about on a pre-season tour and then having to play the demanding role of a lone striker. Kane's only 22 and needs a rest. Rooney's 30 later this year and has played non stop for 14 years at the top level of club football and as the focal point of the national side. It's not surprising that it should catch up with him eventually. Van Gaal needs to buy a central striker. The sooner he does it the better. Than he has options - one of which is to use Rooney more sparingly for a while until he recovers his sharpness.

Yeah hilarious SD. Didn't have you down as someone to take pleasure from others misfortune.

Yeah my heart bleeds for the unfortunate soul. And of the 2, I'd rather Charlton was my country's leading scorer. Rooney has been relying on reputation for a while now and doesn't do enough to get in the squad, let alone be the top goalscorer

Didn't see that one coming to be honest. I guess that's the end for Cuadradadadado. Not that he had a beginning.

Class player but I'm not exactly filled with dread after we've seen a string of attacking wingers move from Spain and seriously struggle here in the PL. Navas and Di Maria two rather expensive examples of this.

He does plenty to get into the squad: he plays for Man Utd, and his name's Wayne Rooney.

Let's just ignore that neither of those things have anything to do with what he does on the pitch...

Chelsea spunk what we would consider a fortune on a player they don't really need just to stop Utd getting him. This game is ridiculous

Have you seen Chelsea this season?
They need a few more after Pedro, on current form.
