I guess it depends on what industry you're in.

For educational purposes, displaying the aptitude to learn Mandarin is a lot different to showing an ability to learn German in my opinion.

The possibilities of employment in this country as an Arabic linguist are way beyond those available to people who speak German fluently.

Naturally, learning Mandarin - for the majority of Brits at least - is a far more challenging quest than German. It's a whole new ball game.

As for Arabic vs German, I'm sure it does depend on the industry. In mine, real estate and finance, you'd get further with German. The German market & German institutions account for far more investment spending, lending and corporate leasing activity than Arabic speaking nations. It's why I put a bit more effort into learning that lingo than Arabic. <ok>

Like I say, industry specific mate German is almost worthless in the two industries I work in.

My boss once told me, there was an Arab doing a deal with him for a site in Jordan, the Arab turned to his mate and said in Arabic something like "I'll get this for $2m but I'll go to $2.5m if I need to", my boss closed the deal at $2.5m and as they walked out he said to them in Arabic "You sure you don't want to go for lunch?". They both had no idea he spoke Arabic before they turned up at the office to meet him.

What's your 'industry', Juan?

I have two separate industries that I have interests in mate, one is construction, trading materials in construction predominantly to be more specific. The second one is communications intel. Soon to add the third, pharmaceuticals when I get some documentation approved.

You can deduce from that, that I work as a brickie, doing a bit in carphone warehouse part time and I hope to start selling dope when I get my driving license back. <laugh>

I know he nicks tiles & bog rolls from his work - he telt me.
His lass even telt him to tack the beige bog rolls back & get some white ones, he telt me that anarl, lol.

Hahaha this is right, there's still a rogue beige bog roll in my airing cupboard at home as an emergency supply, better safe than sorry!

Reactions: Billy Death
48 Terry man, getting on you know.
Years of abuse have took their toll.
Epilepsy, panic attacks, palpitations.
On all sorts of meds.
When I think of what I used to be able to do & the way I've let myself go.
****ing shameful really.
You are only half way through life man, Billy.

Not really mate, plenty of people end up in ruts. It's never too late to change that... Well it for some it is, but not you.

It's surprising how much it sorts your head out as well mate. Even small changes, you don't have to start marathons every day!
