To be honest I don't think we need him unless all three of the want aways go. Akpom did look bloody good, Aluko is far too good at this level to be on the bench, Jelavic likewise, Hernandez possibly bottom of the pile if he doesn't turn it on, but I think he will and he's got bags of quality if he does manage to start showing it regularly. What are we gonna do if N'Doye is the only one to leave?
I think you could really have said that about all 26 outfield players who took to the pitch yesterday, it's early doors, lots of new faces, players not up to speed yet and teamwork to be built. One thing has to be said though, there wasn't even the faintest glimmer of a succesful partnership between Akpom and Jelavic yesterday.
I wouldn't listen too much to Mr Nixon, he's had a shocking window for transfer news. Said Odubajo wouldn't sign too
Agreed. Yesterday. I do believe that there is potential in the long run should Jelavic stay as I think they would compliment each other well. Pacey, audacious and skilful combined with a work horse, experienced, strong , hold the ball up player. Should we sign Gray I can't imagine seeing much more other than Gray and Akpom with Jelavic used as a sub which won't settle well with him.
Even if Jelavic stays, he's bound to have some time on the sidelines due to niggles etc. Plus he runs out of steam after about 65 mins. Akpom looked promising but like Aluko is not really a target man for crosses. Aluko is flexible enough to provide cover for Elmo and Clucas. I'll be very happy if we get Gray and hang on to everyone else apart from N'Doye and Abel.
Jelavics reaction at being subbed wasn't one of a player who thinks he has a future with us.There was nothing said as he walked by SB.He will be gone soon.Probably the last time we see him.
Agree with this and would add that we've all moaned about a lack of ball through the middle, and for the first time in a long time yesterday I saw Aluko playing with his head up looking and also succeeding in putting the ball through rather than running into trouble and losing the ball. Okay, we are just one game in, but if Aluko starts firing with Akpom and whoever else up front I can see some good games ahead. Mouthwatering...
I've said it before, but I was really disappointed with Jelavić yesterday. I thought Aluko did more than Jelavić in the short time he was on the pitch. So, if Jelavić wants away, based on yesterday, that's fine by me. Gray would be a terrific signing, he seems to work tirelessly, he's younger than Jelavić and his progress is on an upward trajectory. He also looks bloody quick. He seems a decent finisher too. I think he's exactly what we need.
Of course it's too early to say, which is exactly why we can't say that Akpom and Clucas are certain to be amazing at this point. Jelavic I've always felt is a bit overrated here, Aluko may be better this season but again too early to tell.
"The best player in the league" according to Freedman at Forest - didn't see any proof of that when they played Brighton, mind.
I hope we get Gray, Maloney and Bentley (or another keeper) and sell N'Doye, Hernandez and (if he really doesn't want to be here) Jelavic. That'd be a great squad heading into the season. Plus we'd still have the options of loans should we need them.
Agreed. He clearly doesnt want to be here. Last year he gave 100% despite his bad knees. Now he sees the Championship as beneath him, doesnt put in the effort, and is an accident waiting to happen every time he plays. He was once a great performer for us...now if Werder Bremen or a Turkish club come through with a bid around 3 mill. we should say thanks and goodbye. N'Doye will be gone this week if his agent is satisfied or gets out of the way. I still think Hernandez could come good but he's probably headed to Italy. If we agree terms for Gray we could have speed up front with him and Akpom with Aluko playing behind them. Luer looks promising too. Our big need remains a creative attacking player in CMF. Could be a fit Snodrass or Diame, or Maloney, or An Other. Lets hope Elmo and a revitalised Hudd stay.
