According to reports in the Italian media, Inter Milan will take the case of Ricky Alvarez to FIFA after Sunderland refused to pay the €11m for the player. The Premier League side are unhappy that the Argentine suffered a series of injuries last season which reduced him to a handful of games for the club.

Tuttopsort have reported this morning that Inter Milan have now submitted the documents to FIFA to prove Sunderland have to make Alvarez’s move a permanent one after they avoided relegation last season. The Serie A have always maintained they had an agreement with the English side that if they remained din the Premier League then Alvarez would be become a Sunderland player after his initial seasons loan spell. Sunderland are according to Tuttosport now preparing their defence when the case when they face FIFA.

Recently the South American posted a photograph on social meida with him in his running gear far away from his Sunderland teammates. The player commented on his solo training by saying he was working on his pre-season fitness whilst waiting for news on his future with the club. There is doubt if the midfielder has a future at the club after Sunderland denied they had an agreement of a mandatory redemption, something which could now be solved by FIFA.

I truly hope this gets sorted - if it was £2m then I wouldn't really have a problem with it - he has obvious quality just he's made of fine bone China!!
£7m (ish) is far too much for a player who played 4 games (I think) last season - I feel for him as a footballer too mind. If this ends up being a mandatory redemption with no appearance clauses then someone at the club should be fired from a cannon!! Shocking management of a situation - never should a player be enforced upon a club after a loan deal unless there are appearance clauses!
 
I agree, shocking management and still think this is why Ellis is maybe holding back on the purse strings. We will probably still have to fork out the required 7 million on this player and I have always maintained that with the bits of information we know, legally, Sunderland have to sign this player. It's our own fault for signing a legally binding contract saying if Sunderland stay up, then we sign Alvarez.

Sunderland stayed up, we sign Alvarez. I will also be gobsmacked if we are to get him at a reduced rate.

Inclined to agree, we want the fee lowered.

We haven't tried to pull out, we tried to renegotiate, personally I have no issue with him signing as the ability is clear.

And yep!

Totally agree with that! The issue is obviously the £7m - had he played 15 games and scored 5 and made 5 then £7m would be no issue - but as he played around 4 games (minutes wise) and spent the rest of the time injured the fee is far too high! Even if we say "here's £2m up front and, if he plays x games and scores x goals we'll give you another £5m" then I'd be happy with that - contract clauses are always a good thing as they only activate on a players successes

Contradicts itself if being impartial, but clearly this rag has decided despite knowing **** all
 
I think the central issue in the dispute is the fact that Inter refused treatment to one of their players at the time he was injured. I believe FIFA will haul them over the coals for that. I don't think we'll get out of signing him, and don't really mind that - he's a good player, after all. I think the most likely outcome is we sign him at a reduced fee.

All they had to do is give permission for the operation and none of this would have happened. The lad has needed it since February and still hasn't had it.

Exactly, Funky. I can't see Inter getting away with that scot-free. If we have signed a contract to sign him if we stayed up, then we will be held to it. But a reduced fee is the most likely outcome.

Like Funky has said previous, we would say to FIFA that Inters negligence in blocking the operation has caused potential loss of value or damage to our asset.

I think a reduced fee is appropriate and I think that's going to be SAFC's stance.

I'm just wondering if there's a link between this issue and us possibly now looking to loan a striker like Januzaj?

As in, the club is now setting to one side a budget originally created to buying a striker, now having to go towards paying for Alvarez because the club think they may now lose the argument?

Or am I over-thinking this? <doh>

I think you're over thinking it. The potential fee will have been addressed by the club prior to handing Congerton his budget.

I'd suggest the Alvarez fee would come from last seasons budget, when the transfer was set up.

Would be crazy to tie up this years budget last season, surely?

Presactly.
I think the mentions of them dithering over an operation on the lad and our lack of being able to use him will be the stance SAFC take.
We want to decrease our outlay as a consequence of the stance they took.
