Has anyone eaten at The Old House yet? It's next door to Manchester Arms and the food is excellent! In fact, the whole place is. I go all the time. If anyone goes and likes to try different beers/ales/ciders then get something from the fridge as they change the stock frequently to drinks from all over the place.

For anyone interested in the food, it's mainly a variety of big burgers. I had a Kheema Burger yesterday and it was great.

Cheers for the posts, rang a few but many were booked. Ended up in Molescroft in the end. Food was pretty decent actually

Been a few times with our lass. They do make a good burger. Though probably bettered by dope burger now.

Nice place all around though.

Depends on what you want. if you want proper pub grub sunday lunch then I'd go to Goodmanham Arms, but you have to go about now or it all gets sold out. You also might struggle to get a table as there are only a handful of places to sit. Good ale though.

If you want carvery and don't mind big fat chavs, then West Bulls in Cottingham is decent, as is Darleys.

Agreed about Darleys the place seems to have settled a lot lately and as they say the proof is in the pudding as the place is always fairly busy. Even on a weekday my wife and I have been surprised at how busy the place gets, we have also had 2 Christmas dinners there and whilst the 1st one was superb in every sense the next year was a bit of a let down but still good value at around £32 each. That included everything, except your drinks of course, coffee and mints at the end included. It is not lean cuisine though just fairly decent pub grub with reasonable prices to match. As for West Bulls, I gave up on that place a while back, it just seemed to be a contest on who could pile their plates with food the highest but again it must be ok as the place was packed, I'm just not into carvery's. As for the villages, Duke in Ferriby used to do a decent Sunday lunch but must admit its a while since I've been there.

It's a shame about Cave Castle, it's a great site, but it needs millions spending on it.

It looked tired 12 years ago as me and the Mrs looked at it as a wedding venue (I don't expect they have spent anything on it since) - thankfully the gaffer taped carpet put her off and we got married in Harrogate instead.

My daughter's getting married next year and went to talk to them, it's expensive and as you say the place looks tired, it was the worst deal of all the places she viewed(which is a shame as it's probably the best setting).

They showed her a room and said 'this is probably our worst room'. <doh>

As a wedding setting venue Rudstone Walk is pretty good. Inside the decor is decent, it's a bit lacking on the accommodation front. This is all made up though by the views out over East Yorks. The limiting factor is numbers though, or it was back in '02. We slummed it up and got married at Rudding Park.

try Hotham arms.. used to be alright.. I worked there when I was younger too :emoticon-0103-cool:

The Mrs was following some Facebook chat about Hotham Arms last night, owner getting slated (he's very marmite, IMO) and apparently sightings of him buying his roast tatties from Tescos lol.

It was decent enough when we last went.

This is pricey, but probably the best wedding venue ever I've been to http://carltontowers.co.uk/
