Interesting... Ourselves and Southampton are both heavily linked with this lad. I am desperate for us to sign him, he's a top, top player. I'd be seething if we paid 7m for Robbie Brady! I'm sorry but yous have been royally shafted on that deal.
There's a rumour this end, that the reason the Brady deal hasn't yet been confirmed, is that we're now trying to include Hooper as part of the deal.
We paid £5-6m for him, so nothing less I wouldn't have thought. We've also two strikers we'd rather get rid of ahead of him. Fancy Lafferty?
The only argument against that is we most likely need to shift a striker in order to sign one. Obviously we'd rather shift Lafferty or RvW, but you need a buyer. Replacing our third choice striker with someone who can potentially be an upgrade on Grabban or Jerome would surely be tempting?
No ta. As far as I remember Hooper didn't look up to much in the Premier League and was only just half decent in the Championship, am I being harsh?
Hooper is our best finisher, but can't play as a lone striker really, and that's why he's struggled to get both goals and minutes with us. Much better suited to a strike partnership. He can be quite creative at times too, the few occasions we've had him, Hoolahan and Redmond on the pitch together they all link up really well. 12 goals this season as a bit part player was a good return, particularly as he's often seemed to get better with a run in the side. Comfortably capable of 20 goals a season in the championship if he was your main striker.
Hooper hasn't played much over the last 2 seasons but when ever he has played I thought he looked quite good and don't know why he isn't played more. But with his old track record he should be worth more than Brady and imo a better player. To be honest though I think he should move on, as he is being wasted here.
None of our strikers 'looked up to much' in the Premier League that year thanks to bloody Chris Hughton and his negative safety first approach. I'm actually surprised Hughton bothered to field any strikers at all tbh.
Cheers. As we always play two up top it sounds like he could be a handy addition for us and it seems I indeed was being harsh. We've got the same issue as you though, we've got three strikers on big wages that we really need to shift before bringing in new one's( though it looks like one of them hasn't travelled to Austria for our game against Hannover 96 tonight, so maybe he's close to being gone).
Hooper had the best goal/minute ratio last season of any of our players. He's a quality striker and I would argue is worth more than Brady. Infact as has been said before I would far rather had Hooper in the squad.
Didn't Hooper get 8 goals in the Prem? Not the most enthralling return but considering the rest of our strikers got 1 between them, it was bloody good. I personally want us to pull out of this deal. It feels like hull have been taking us for a ride. No way Brady is worth most than Snodgrass or Hooper, New tv money or not!
I wasn't sure if it was 8 all together or 8 in the league. And Elmander's only goal was in a cup right?
