And can I make clear that I have no problem with water cannons being used when required, none at all. I suppose it all depends upon the situation and I honestly could not care less what happened, I did not even look at the story.

If water cannon were used to quell an ugly situation so what, but as Stereo said at the start of the thread, this is nothing but an attempt to start yet another argument.

It reeks.

You can indeed make that clear. No problem at all with a difference of opinion on that front.
I have a problem when it is agenda driven bullshit.

So you've no problem with someone giving you a different opinion there but when I said it earlier you accused me of being a bigot and said that the rioters were perfectly justified in throwing bricks, petrol boms etc.

Make up your mind.

<laugh><laugh> FFS, did you really just say that after all the pish you've just spouted on here? <laugh>

Defending Kelly, but attacking the actions of the PSNI? <doh>

I would say "Shock, horror, haud the back page" but you've encouraged me to ware that one out with your predictable defence of all things Catholic and attacks on all things Protestant under the **** guise of being unhappy with the actions of the police in attempting to quell the illegal actions of idiots.

**** me, there really is no hope for you. Goodbye you hypocritical, fud <ok>

Just saying it doesn't make it true.

You said It is entirely understandable that a certain element will react in such a way.

At the same time saying that the police should have waited, took no action and let the rioting fizzle out.

That sounds like you are justifying their actions to me and many others.

Is there any point continuing this discussion if all you are going to do is tell lies?

So I've just been reading up on some of the news from Belfast over the past few days and was quite shocked to read that a politican was criticising the police for using water cannons prematurely.

Exactly when did he think it would be a fitting time to roll in and wash the scum off the streets?

What a stupid comment to make. The police are getting attacked with fireworks, breaks and petrol bombs and this guy is complaining because they used water cannons prematurely.

<doh>

**** using water, just shoot the ****s with live rounds...<ok>

Job done.

Is it justified to provoke such a reaction in the first instance?

How "clearly wasn't" a small number?
There are other methods of dealing with rioters, such as those employed by police in Britain. I 'd suggest it reasonable for the police to explore all other avenues to diffuse a situation before using such methods. therefore the use of the term premature is absolutely appropriate.

You forgetting what you're saying now?

One thing i will say is that I wiashed they'd used it in london a few times to sort out the little buggers who think defacing monuments, attacking the police, smashing up shops and Govt buildings and terrorising the general public is acceptable.

On topic, I do not know enough about what went on in Belfast or elsewhere to have a view but it's defintiely a different issue and therefore methods of policing need to be more sensitive..

fair dues Chippy.

There was talk of using the water cannons in Britain in the aftermath of the riots you cited but chief police officers are against it.

No talk of using rubber bullets though
