Was he ****.Just a piece of historical interest. Mick McGinnes was a catholic in the RN during the war and received a VC. On his return the people of Belfast raised funds to give him as a reward for his bravery. The city council refused to award him the Freedom of the city as they believed that a working class man from west Belfast did not deserve such an honour.
Served his nation, awarded the highest bravery honour (the only NI man to do so) but the protestants would not join the party. Doubtless they pout on there medals and orange banners and doffed their daft bowler hats to the war memorial but did not have the dignity to acknowledge true bravery.
Willie McBride won the VC in WW1, he was from Belfast.
So did private McFadzean, he was from Belfast too.
They both fought in the Ulster 36th division which was the forerunner of the UVF.
