Thats what I think. He stood by Villa as he is their captain etc, but with selling Benteke, its a backwards step and he may as well try a big move.
Bench it is for him though.

I hope not, he is a decent player and on last season better (or no worse than) than Nasri .

Strange it comes straight after Liverpool meet Bentekes buy out clause, perhaps he see's them going the wrong way.

Hadnt thought about that. With 40m villa should be able to get some decent players in but going to be hard to replace the impact those 2 had on their season. Everyone wants a forward that score 15 goals a season but finding one, then convincing them to join a club who were fighting relegation is going to be tricky.

Mitrovic ic could be a good replacement for benteke, 15m on someone who is similar and guaranteed first choice.

Mate said he preferred Delph to sterling as he thinks Delph will add something to their midfield.

He thinks they might get rid of fernando and have midfield of Fernandinho Delph instead.

Cant see him being first team regular but think he'll be a half decent signing for 8m

in theory replacing milners energy in there

In all seriousness, lots of players [and their parents] around the world grew up supporting Liverpool so it's not much of a stretch to think that some actually do choose us or there's some meaning in playing for us. In contrast, other than kids in Manchester, who's grown up wanting to play for city?
Liverpool is a very big ICON before I came to UK Liverpool was the only club shinning in UK, every one loves the club. When I came they
were still champion year after year. Arsenal/Nott Forest/ Aston Villa/Everton were their challengers, Manchester United were even in lower division.
When you are hooked supporting a club very difficult to change. It's like when you are in love at a first sight.
Liverpool is one of the only British club with supporters all over the world.

A lazy footballer would choose a club where he is not going to be playing regular football. Benteke going to city(if city are interested)
is not the best for him. Milner can just stay in City collecting his wages week in week out, but he wants to play football.

So why does he want to play football now? He's been a squad player for the past 5 years.

Reason is - he wants a big pay day. He's earning more at Liverpool plus got a big signing on fee.

Benteke's goal for Villa:

64.4% of his goals came from free kicks/penalties or headers.

This is why I don't think he's a good fit at Liverpool.

Exactly <ok>

1. Who else is going to score free kicks in the team?

2. Who else is going to score penalties in the team?

3. Who else is going to score headers in the team

That stat suggests he fits the bill in terms of scoring the types of goals we have no one else for <ok>

He is getting £20k/week less than City offered him <doh>

He has moved for game time, he would play less at City this year than he will at Liverpool.

It's not really about history though is it? That's like saying all your support would eventually disappear the less successful you became which just isn't true.

You asked which players want to play for Liverpool, I was saying that some choose us because they've grown up watching us or have family members who did and pass on the thought that we're a very respected club who've been there, done that and are trying to go there and do it again <ok>

Exactly - but as the years go by without success, then the players who did watch us win stuff will grow older, then the new generation come in and didnt watch us win stuff - so why would they want to join?

The history and beauty of the club merely supplemented the attraction of joining when we were consistently in top 4.

I'm sure there a lot of players that love Liverpool but I guarantee that they value their careers far more and would see Liverpool as not a good option (if there is a CL team in for him).

So we're spending £32.5m for a player to take our penalties and free kicks?

And we don't play a style which involves crossing and if we do, then we isolate our two best creative players in Firmino and Coutinho.

Or he's loyal. He signed a 5 year contract before all the other big signings came and went to a team challenging from villa. Can't blame him for that. He played quite a bit but towards the end became a squad player who was bein shifted around never played in his favourite position and was dropped for the big games even though he had done no wrong.

City wanted to keep him and pellegrini is very highly spoken of him, but he played 100% until his contract was up.

Now ow he's come to play more first team football in the role he prefers.

Of of all the footballers who move for one reason or the other, I can't believe you're bashing Milner for wanting to move to play more football!

yes money comes into it, but guy could have got 150k a week at City and played 1/3 of the season for next 3 years and no one would have said a word. Instead wants to play and id rather have a team of players with his attitude.

There's no doubt ambitious players want to join currently successful clubs, most clubs however aren't successful and the top clubs take the worlds best players, after that there's lots of reasons players join clubs. Why would a player join Everton for example?

Clearly not, but they are goal scoring chances and id rather have someone with a decent record take them, than Hendo. If we get 10 Pena and benteke scored 9 of them, that's 9 goals towards potential wins.

And you keep saying we don't play that way with crosses, but that's because we have had steeling and Sturridge up top FfS.

How do you know this year we aren't going to adapt and use that as an option? Would make us much harder to defend against...

there re are more than 1 way to skin a cat, cout and firmy can offer a threat and if things aren't working switch it up and be a bit more direct with crosses.

you don't know how Rodgers wants to play, none of us do and until we see first 10 games with first team out we can't judge.
