I think team might have realised that possession football that we tried to play 1st year and a bit last year didn't work a very well.

Suarez took us to a different level but it's difficult to get players that could replicate that kind of football.

As such, maybe we are going down a slightly different route and having that big central striker to play off. Chelsea did it brilliantly with Drogba and even Costa last year.

We'll be far more dangerous when the ball is out wide, something we haven't done in recent seasons but now have that option and adds variety to our play.

Can switch it up a bit and play Ings/Origi if wanting more movement as well

It's an option... one more than we had last season

I think we're buying players that allow us to be more versatile tactically as you indicate, since last season we just tried to play the same way all the time after Rodgers thought he'd found the magic answer with 3 at the back

There are a few examples of big target man succeeding - Dortmund with Lewa, At Madrid with Mandzukic (and Costa previously), Milan with Sheva.

The problem is that these players are simply better than Benteke - they all have a great touch, intelligent, good movement in addition to being a physical presence. Benteke simply doesn't have that.

But going back to the style - I think we will go back to possession and I hope we do. Because it's what Rodgers knows. I want him to go back to his roots and make this work rather than finding short term fixes.

Most Liverpool fans are anti-Benteke, but Benteke believes he can do a job for Liverpool. Let's please give him a chance.
If you get Messi and he does not wants to play for you, it's worthless.

You'd still take Messi.

Point is - which players actually want to play for Liverpool? And which players see us as a stepping stone?

I'd sooner take the player who sees us as a stepping stone because that would imply they're good enough for bigger clubs.

If Benteke do so well for Liverpool in his first season and Barca or Real are willing to pay £75m plus John Henry as a good business
man would not refuse.

Well if benteke scored 20 goalsa season for us for 3 season then bigger better clubs might very well be interested.

In all seriousness, lots of players [and their parents] around the world grew up supporting Liverpool so it's not much of a stretch to think that some actually do choose us or there's some meaning in playing for us. In contrast, other than kids in Manchester, who's grown up wanting to play for city?

One of of only 6 players to score 10 plus in lasts 3 seasons... Consistent despite being injured for some.

Anoher 15 goals a season for us in 3 seasons and he'll potentially be one of most feared and consistent strikers in Europe.

No no doubt he has potential

We can only cling onto history for so long.

If a good player was offered identical offers from Liverpool or City, they will pick City because they will be playing with better players and have better chances of success.

It's not really about history though is it? That's like saying all your support would eventually disappear the less successful you became which just isn't true.

You asked which players want to play for Liverpool, I was saying that some choose us because they've grown up watching us or have family members who did and pass on the thought that we're a very respected club who've been there, done that and are trying to go there and do it again <ok>

A lazy footballer would choose a club where he is not going to be playing regular football. Benteke going to city(if city are interested)
is not the best for him. Milner can just stay in City collecting his wages week in week out, but he wants to play football.

Delph having medical.

be interesting to hear the rationale after confirming he wasn't moving

Strange it comes straight after Liverpool meet Bentekes buy out clause, perhaps he see's them going the wrong way.

Thats what I think. He stood by Villa as he is their captain etc, but with selling Benteke, its a backwards step and he may as well try a big move.
Bench it is for him though.
