Decided to move the boxing thread to the boxing forum - seems to be a good number of posters on there and I think Cyc, Smokey and the rest will find plenty of open ears there. Still debating what to do with Dex's Ashes Thread - already has far more posts than the Ashes thread on the cricket forum, suggesting not many posters there. Still checking on the "Open" golf thread, will decide whether to move or not based on activity on the golf forum. I would welcome any views - not trying to be a dictator here, just trying to foster growth of the other forums on this site by redirecting threads to where they best seem to belong. All views welcome.
I think you should let all 3 threads stay, as it's more of a community on here than it is on any of those boards. The Golf board in particular has no community whatsoever, and there is a lot of interest in Golf on here. If someone was to post a thread on the golf board it would likely get no responses, yet it will get lots on here. Horse racing will obviously always be the main sport on this forum, but I don't see what the harm is in having some off topic threads about big sporting events like The Open or The Ashes. Plenty of the football boards that have big community's have lots of off topic threads.
The golf forum here is dead. We do post on most events on the General betting board forum though although has somewhat slackened since reds input has been missing and a few other regulars who posted. But the Majors get a good amount of interest there.
In fairness whilst there in Horseracing it is still within the 'Racing & Gambling' forum so I'm struggling to understand why you're moving the golf threads. There used by many of us to discuss tournaments from a betting perspective. Whilst I do enjoy and do use the boxing thread it doesn't have a 'gambling' angle and the Ashes thread certainly doesn't, so don't see why it's staying and others getting the boot?
Excuse my ignorance Oddy but Boxing Forum? Is this something different to the Boxing Thread that Cyc started?
As I said, my main aim here is to promote the other sports forums on Not606 - if you go to the "forums" menu and scout around you will see that there are indeed Boxing, Cricket and Golf forums with their individual threads and posters. The aim is not to ban talk of boxing, cricket or golf from the horse racing forum, merely to point you all towards the already exisiting forums that cater for such sports. A bit like if you all came into my curry house asking for chicken chow mein - I'd point you towards the Chinese across the road

First of all one of the main problems is the golf forum hasn't been used in over 3 months, and the other point is people who are into horse racing are essentially gamblers. The 2 go hand in hand. So as a gambler I'd rather discuss other sports like Golf, Boxing, Football etc with other gamblers, rather than just discuss them with general fans of those sports. This is why id prefer to discuss these events with the horse racing community rather than other community's, as we on here are more knowledgable regarding the betting side of things. And the large majority of posters on here also bet on other sports, rather than just racing. If I went into the football boards, and started discussing that I thought this team or that team was a good value bet tonight, none of them on there would have a clue what I'm talking about.
Well said shergy.ive gone onto the football forum and it gets rather nasty at times, I think we have a great forum here and its always playfull banter, never gets to heated.most folk on here are general sports fans so open to discussing footy, golf etc.I'm still up for banning the cricket though!
Thanks for the feedback everyone, the view of the forum has been made clear Off topic threads will remain, I have asked one of the super mods to move the boxing thread back over here (I have no mod powers on the boxing board) so expect to see it back later today. Golf and the wonderful Ashes thread will also remain.

Priceless Reminds me of the time our students union tried to reduce the quorate figure for votes as they could never pass anything. Only time they ever had a quorate vote and the motion was defeated so they kept the quorate figure as was.
I always think that discussing horse racing on the ‘Daily Thread’ is off topic. In the dim and distant past said page was introduced so as everyone could discuss what they were having for lunch. Always thought it isn’t cricket to discus horse racing on the ‘Daily Thread’. I don’t mind off topic pages in the slightest. Though I have to say the forum is getting even more camper now its got a Boxing one!
