Both hypothetical purchases at the minute but both have been linked as the next signing for us as we look to progress for next season. So, the question is simple.

Who would you prefer? One is a young, still raw under 21 star, who has burst onto the scene in the last 12 months with us on loan. He impressed me with his attitude, team play and personality and of course, he looks a really good footballer as well. Scored a half a dozen EPL goals but suffered an injury late in the campaign, just when he could have stepped up to replace the departing Judas. If Man Utd would sell, he would probably cost £15m + although wages would be more in line with our current structure of say £30,000 per week, which may well double his earnings (he wont be on that much currently at Utd I wouldn't have thought)? However, he has very little experience other than his loan spells at championship clubs then us in the EPL last season. He is still a 'potential' player rather than the finished article. He does have tons of potential though.

The other is a proven EPL and International striker with a superb scoring record in top flight football but who has definitely struggled in the last 18 months with form and injuries. His quality is totally unquestioned but his attitude and personality may be less so. He would probably cost around £12m to £15m if Spurs would sell and he must be on £100k per week wages at least? However, if he could regain his form of say 2 years ago, he would be a massive player and a better footballing solution to Judas as well as goals. However, he is 29 years old and in 3 years wont have the same resale value. He is also a Londoner and could he settle up here?

So, you are the gaffer. Who would you choose if you could get both and both were willing to come?

I'll tell you my thoughts later, although if you have read some of my other post this morning, you'll probably guess long before.

I'd go for Welbeck, solely because his play compliments that of Gyan's better.

Add in age, potential, future resale value, and the fact he knows the club already, and it's pretty straightforward.

I do maintain though, that if Defoe came here, he'd 'do a Bent' and kickstart his career, and score a stack of goals for us, but with Welbeck, the goals would be shared amongst the team, which is better really, as you ain't relying on someone keeping bang in form all season.

Wellbeck for me, he has huge potential.
Imagine him and wickham as our forward line for years to come.

    Wellbeck for me all day.

I rate Defoe, he's a tiny bloke when you see him but carries with him attitude and fight along with a fantastic goal scoring record when in form and fully fit.

However, in Wellbeck we have an Under 21 international who can play on the wing, behind the front-men or upfront himself. Even at such a young age, before his injury last season he was coming into fantastic form and I would go as far as saying terrorising midfielders/defenders he was running at with some excellent trickery. I found myself saying at times, you can tell this kids from Man U.

Attitude wise, he's seems cany and the fact he's a Man U player and international doesn't seem to have gone to his head. 15 million for him would be a complete bargain imo, and as has happened with Henderson, I would only see that value increasing.

If I was the gaffer it would be a no-brainer. Wellbeck everytime.

I'd rather have a team of Welbeck's playing in league one than a team of Defoe's playing in Europe.
I hope Defoe's form never returns. I hope he never plays in Red and White. I hate the little Runt with a passion.

Easy one for me this. Wellbeck would be my choice

I would be happy to pay 2 or 3 times Defoe's transfer fee for Wellbeck.

Wellback because of his age his link up play and overall teamwork far surpass JD however i do think JD is the more natural goalscorer of the two they are hard to compare because 1 will give us just goals and the other offers a tremendous work rate and intelligent link up play.

so i do for danny age and effort beat a few seaons of goals from defoe for me!

haway then cest whos your shout?

So what do you really think kidda? Ha! Ha!

Okay, the trend is obvious. I have said in several posts this morning that I would blow what ever we have left in the kitty on securing a player that impressed me hugely last season. His football ability and his character were 100% spot on and he wont get the progress in his career he desires as Man Utd's 5th or 6th choice striker.

We may only get him on loan but I'd take that too because the more he plays for us, the less chance he will want to go back to being a reserve or sub, even for a giant club like Man Utd.

Come on Sir Alex, do your pal Brucie a favour and name a price and let us have young Danny permanently.

    Mmmm?

Take Danny on loan and use the cash to buy N'Zogbia permanent. Make another bid for him permanently next summer. OR, take DW on loan and keep our powder dry for January?

Either way, I really want DW back at the SOL for next season. Full stop.

Welbeck over any of them. Needs to be a permanent move though. I would take him on loan but only if its with a view to buy.

To be quite honest Welbeck is the missing piece of our jigsaw. He can play on the left as well as up top.

    Migg
    Bardo Bramble Oshea Ricco
    Larsson Catts Gardener
    Sess Gyan Wellbeck

What team that would be, left footers on the left, right footers on the right, its called balance.
