So people who cannot provide proof to a level of Sigma 5 are not allowed a say in the matter?

The Tidal Lagoon company have been badgering local sports clubs for several years in order to get support for the project. They are not scientists - but they are very useful when the Lagoon company presents it's PR to Ministers.

Conversely, local groups and users, eg fisherman, have just an important part to play in any counter argument if they feel they are adversely affected, even if they can't produce evidence to Sigma 5 level.

The "moaners" are very important if there is to be a proper debate on a very complex issue. You will normally find that those trying to avoid a proper debate will be the companies trying to railroad their project through as quickly as possible in order to maximise profit. They won't give two tosses about the local people or the local environmental consequences.

I can understand your reservations PGF, but I cannot see a great deal of issues with the Gower coastline or fisheries with this project, of course I speak as a layman on the subject, as I'm no marine biologist, or fisherman, but common sense does give you a perspective of the project that is going to be undertaken and it is as enviomentaly friendly as you can possibly get from modern man.

What would be the environmental effect on the Gower coastline and fisheries if an under sea volcanoe erupted just off Swansea Bay? Or the movement of tutonic plates? I'd prefer this to Nuclear wouldn't you?

I've got no more reservations than anyone else, but I do have issues with anyone dismissing concerns because it doesn't suit their agenda.

Well yes, though I'm not privy to any of that on this lagoon project and the draft design and architecture looks good to me PGF, I'm normally sceptical by nature but must admit I'm pretty upbeat regarding the Lagoon......... <ok>

How about one of the main protagonists going to supply the rocks from his own mine down in Cornwall and destroy their area in the process.....................http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ear...tion-over-quarry-for-green-energy-scheme.html

But hey ho, don't leave the moaners get in their way <laugh>

That's a good read PGF, the article seems well balanced and while I understand the locals concerns, the company have promised very minimal impact, and do seem reasonable.

I dont know the time scale of this project but it has to be 2 years + at a guess and even though the main contractors will probably come from outside Swansea/Wales there will still be hundreds of well paid jobs for the locals and that is fantastic news.....

That figure seems extremely high , perhaps if you total the staff working on the development and manufacture of the generators along with the quarrymen , ship's crews etc but actually building it unlikely imo

Wait a minute, you are proposing that those without proof should be allowed to present their personal opinion as valid proof of something that doesn't exist actually existing when it concerns a government or local authority planning decision?

There is a very good reason that doesn't happen. If it did I alone would have stopped the government spending £800M on the Millenium Dome because the wind from the west rebounded back to give a slight breeze against my chin here in Swansea 300 miles away from the site in question on the fourth minute of the four hour of the year of the Ox.

I can't scientifically prove any of that but hey, why should I, yeah?!

No, I am saying that everyone with an interest has a right to have that interest heard, The "moaners", as you call them, have just as much right to have their interest heard as those who want to plonk a concrete tidal lagoon in Swansea Bay. And yes, it IS up to those who want to alter the state of dynamic equilibrium in Swansea Bay to prove that any alteration will not have a significant detrimental effect on the area.

It is up to the decision makers to make the final decision based on all the evidence put before them - but the onus is on the tidal lagoon developers to make their case.

I cannot for the life of me see any detrimental effect of putting a couple of million boulders into the sea?
