Just a short thread for any games that don't merit their own one. U21s, Spurs XI and the like. Last night saw the youngsters play a rather odd game, split into 3 "halves" of 30 minutes each. Ugo Ehiogu lead the kids against his old team, Mark Warburton's Rangers. The behind-closed-doors fixture at the training ground finished 3-2 to the hosts, with goals from Ismail Azzaoui (x2) and Shayon Harrison. http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/ugo-on-training-games-100715/ No idea of who Rangers selected or our full line-up. The former Brentford boss has made it clear that he'd like to borrow some of our academy players in recent interviews, though. He'll have found the whole thing pretty useful, I'd have thought.
We played Southend behind closed doors today, and won 4-0. Again, unsure of lineups but it looks like a wide variety of players got involved including two of the new boys, Wimmer and Trippier. Rose, Bentaleb, Onomah and Oduwa scored for us. Match report here http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/southend-friendly-report-110715/
Soldado nearly scored woohoo! Mustn't be sarcastic, you never know he may stay and score 25 goals for us.
Good to see the youngsters are in with the first team early on in preseason Was Oduwa the guy that did a stepover before chipping Friedel in the King testamonial? I've no idea if he's any good but I like his style
That would be marvelous. I have a bet on with a gooner colleague of mine that the day Soldado hits 20 goals for us in a season, he'll come into the office wearing a Soldado t-shirt. Just a Soldado t-shirt. And socks, if it's nippy outside.
Thought I'd post it here and in the Transfer Thread - Hugo apparently shattered his wrist over the summer and is being assessed. Probably why he came back a week or so later than Vorm, although he should be ready to go at the start of the season. http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/hugo-update-130715/
Oh it is fractured, I read shattered! That or I'm trying to be a journalist and produce some clickbait...
http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/spurs-tv/highlights/friendlies/spurs-4-0-southend-united/ Highlights for the 4-0 win over Southend a few days ago. Best bits include Oduwa's play for the first 2 goals and Bentaleb's strike.
Some hit from Bentaleb. Townsend first to congratulate him and probably ask him how he kept it down... Nice finish by Rose, too. Good to see Oduwa's involvement in so much of it. Played a bit for Luton last season, but needs a bigger campaign this time.
Sutton open their 3 pitch tonight against Palace.Alan Pardew has agreed to cut the ribbon, along with Tim Vine
I knew Bentaleb had a big future at Spurs when his first shot for us in a (PL? Cup?) game hit both posts. It takes most of our players at least two shots to do that. I'd like to see Rose and Yedlin as wingers from time to time this year. Would you believe Rose at LM and Bentaleb at LB? They were each outstanding in the one game they started there last year. Oduwa is very impressive.
It was Robbo he chipped but yeah that was him. Tricky bastard from what it seems. He scored a cracker last season for the U21's, edge of the box and curled it into the far right corner over the keeper's head, quite similar to Chadli's goal at Newcastle the season before last. Not sure how well his loan went at Luton, it sounded like he was in and out of the team but I'm not sure if that was due to fitness/ injuries or form. Looks like a great prospect if his little cameo clips are anything to go by.
Yeah Rose and Bentaleb were really good when switching about their positions, Rose understandably was good at LW considering that was originally his natural position when we signed him from Leeds (think he actually played up top briefly too) but Bentaleb's form at LB was a great surprise, got up and down well and his crossing weren't too shabby along with his solid defensive abilities. I think Yedlin may well be seen as a future RW, his pace is scary and he's not afraid to take on a player so Poch may see him as a Lennon-esque type winger. We could've definitely done with one last season, when teams were operating that rigid defence which weren't allowing us much space when cutting in, it would've been ideal to have a speed demon come on, force the FB out wide and hopefully beat them and then stick a cross in. A lot may also depend on where the club sees Walker right now, with Trippier coming in is he now the first choice or is here to initially challenge and wait for his chance? I'm not sure Walker would be too happy playing second fiddle and so could possibly be a surprise departure if the club feels we have enough adequate options (Yedlin, Trippier & Dier).
