Unless he starts to focus on his football again, he'll go nowhere. He spends far too much time out with the wrong crowd; drinking, smoking and whatever else he does and his football has massively regressed since. He was going to be a big spark in the team following Suarez's departure, but really didn't step up at all.
Talented player. Started off well. Faded. Picked up again with Sturridge and Suarez. Faded again - went backwards imo; tries less, doesn't run directly, tries to do too much on the ball and he doesn't even put his shoulder in any more and just falls over.
Not sure what'll happen at City, but he won't get as much game time at least. I'm not majorly worried, but if he didn't have such an attitude and ****head agent, I'd rather us kept him as an option.

What are we to blame for- not being good enough? I'm guessing that's not a deliberate policy.
- Oververspending on dross.
- Having no long term plan or consistency
- Giving the wrong people too much power
It's the club's fault we're in this position. It may not be deliberate but we have no one else to blame. And it all started when Ayre and Purslow sacked Rafa and brought in Roy.

I recall he and his agents saying they didn't want to negotiate a contract until the end of the season. Then shortly afterwards, the club offer him a contract and started leaking the talks about how he turned it down and was too greedy.
Sterling has copped a lot of stick but the club have been no angels either.

its not that he's not good. its is he as good as he thinks he is... ie probably the next gareth bale or more the next ronaldo.... carragher has it right. he will have good and bad spells and the question is do city have time for that or no.
For £50m transfer fee and £50m in wages, they better have time for it!

Yes, reported by the local journalists. Clubs use the media to their advantage and leak stuff. It happens all the time..
But I think it's naive to think the club are beyond some of the blame.
for me he should not have gone on loan to wigan and not been in any match day squad at end of year unitl he signed... thats imo the clubs fialing
Although the points you make are valid, I think it's a bit of oversimplification. There are many reasons why we are no longer the power we used to be, and not all of them are, or ever were, within our control.
There's a general power shift towards clubs that have the ability to out muscle us in the market, a growth in attitude amongst young players that they all deserve to play at the very top without first earning the right, and the simple fact that we've been so long off the top that many young players weren't even born the last time we were up there.
We simply don't have the cachet we once had to attract the very best, or the ability to consistently outbid the top teams.
As for the quality of the signings we do make, well, it's easy to see in retrospect that some have been big mistakes, but it's always a gamble and despite what many fans say with the benefit of hindsight, it wasn't always obvious.
Yes, there was considerable mismanagement going back several years, but we can't turn the clock back- we have to take it from here. The solution to our problems is subjective. Ask 10 fans who we should get and get 10 answers- and there's no real point in blaming the club for not getting our own personal favourites.
The way back will be difficult, success will only come with shrewd management and a whole ****load of luck. I don't think there are any instant fixes.
i think in fairness ayre sacked nobody back then as commerical director mr g and mr h were sharpening knives for old rafa for 2 years.

Rafa was removed to make the club more attractive proposition for new owners, imo.
It removed the immediate headache of whether they should sack a club legend who was under performing and also removed a manager renowned for making public attacks and demands of his superiors.
On a footballing level it was a poor decision but as things were then there were far more important things than football to take into account when making decisions at the club. I'll be honest I didn't agree with it at the time, and I didn't agree with it a few years ago but I've come round to the fact Broughton & Ayre had to ensure we were sellable and to the right party (not Peter Lim or Kenny Huang) even if it meant sacrificing Benitez to achieve that.

I see him as a threat to everyone in row Z behind the goal. 
Well unlike with us, the pressure is now on. His flaws have been pointed out but we always viewed them with the patience of fans seeing a young player grow.
Thanks to his own pushing City fans will now judge his performance good or bad based on him being a self proclaimed 50M finished article getting paid 200k a week.
Look at how that perception lead to Bale being judged once his big move happened. (I know bigger fee but same point )
