So the deal is agreed, Sterling will join City for £49m. We make a huge profit but have we also taken a huge gamble by selling to a key rival?

When Suarez left the club we were adamant that he will NOT join a rival club. But Sterling is not Suarez.

The issue still exists though. We have sold one of Europes best young players to a rival club. We have allowed one of our key rivals to gain ownership of a player who could become a serious talent in a very short space of time.

So the question, do you see Sterling as a threat?

and there you have it.

mirallas mugged of everton despite being quite a good player for them, very driect and troublesome for defences.
v
Sterling mugs off LFc and he's a top top player LFC are fools to sell.

Mirallas still hanging round like a bad smell
v
sterling sold for top top moeny after we refused tow bids.

seems to me there's a contradiction somewhere here <laugh>

What now?

He has talked about broken promises from the club and wanted a move in January. The club activated the additional year option they had to put the transfer ball in their court. A risky move but I still dont want him at the club and have said on many occasions that he is inconsistant and he can go<laugh>

I don't, he's just not that good.

If he fulfills his potential then you'll wince every time you see him play, but if he becomes SWP MkII then you'll chortle every time you see him on the bench.

i.e. the answer lies with the player himself.

No, but he's officially a ****.

Yeah I think that's a given.

I must admit I'm shocked that they've supposedly put a £200k a week contract in front of him. In fairness it's hardly surprising that turned his head. £50m over 5 years? FFS <doh>

Yes - he's a good player who now plays for our rivals. Already a very good player but with potential to become world class.

But the threat will be mitigated if we spend the proceeds wisely. Go all in for Lacazette and Pedro.

Unlike Suarez he's not the finished article - what am I saying ......... he's simply not Suarez. He's a young lad with potential, unfortunately allowing himself to be pushed in a direction that may not see him progress at city like he did with us? No I don't see him as a threat and just pleased for his sake we don't still have Agger - who knows what would happen when we play city.

Well he has got kids to feed....<whistle> and just enough loose change to treat himself to a few bongs

Sterling will have a field day with Skrtel and Lovren.

I'd have much rather he went abroad, but it's done now so we just have to get on with it.
If he misses as many open goals for them as he did for us we've nothing to fear. :)
I'm sorry to lose him in footballing terms, but I don't want anyone at the club who has a strop when things aren't going his way.
It'll be interesting to see how he gets on if everything isn't perfect for him.
He's a talent, but a long, long way off being worth that amount of money.

Emre or Hendo will put a beasting on him

In truth what was Sterling at LFC, he was nothing in 2012-13, seeing him take his ball home on a freezing afternoon at Oldham in the FA Cup gave a good indication of what was to come with his attitude, he was very good for half a season in 2013-14 and totally regressed last season and the amount of times he turned up was in the single figures

the way stelring played that last year he will be the next nasri... running sideways acting like he is gods gift and getting 1 in 5 or 1 in 10.

He's a player with lots of pace. frankly having seen him every years since he signed at 15... I thought at 16 he was not that good. pacey as **** but head down and never looking. At 16 he'd changed that and was very much ready to go. at 18 he played for us and got burned out by rodgers. he played very poorly and was dropped for a long time. he came back in and did well with SAS

He can look good but for me doesn't run direct enough. He has the pace and the trick to do a bale on it but he never does. he seems to shy out of the contact. so for me until he put that into his game he's going to struggle to make as big an impact as he needs to.

at 20 he's got time on his side though.... I don't think there will be a definitive answer one way or the other next season even if he gets off to a flier or has a dogs dinner.

I agree completely. I would have liked to watch him grow further with us, we gave him his big chance after all, had it not been Rodgers giving him a break, he'd still be in the reserves and unheard of. It all happened very quickly for him and he's trying to rush it even further. Hope for his sake that he's developed well as I really don't like seeing youngsters taken advantage of - we'll see soon enough.
