Match Day Thread Pre-season

Well this one unless

We do sign Moreno and he can come straight in.
Lallana or markovic are fit to play then I would drop Can ( who seemed overawed today) and move Henderson back infield.
Although hendo and manquilla developed a good understanding 2nd half

 

Think a few are going a bit overboard with the Manquillo praise, although granted compared to Johnson he looks like Cafu. He had a good game, solid defensively (which makes a change!) and tried to give width on the attack. He did loose the ball a few times in the first half, but that's to be expected in his first game and at Anfield no less. Promising start and hopefully much more to come.

Johnson was alright at LB, but still tries to do far too much with the ball and ends up loosing it. Occasionally it luckily rolls out for a throw in...

Aside from the obvious players, I thought Gerrard's passing was sublime today at times and he was defensively sound too. Good to see him finding some form before the season starts after his 'worst three months'. He'll be important for us.

 

How quick Manquillo is to dive into tackles is scaring me. Watch him, always doing that scissor-like slide tackle.

 

Good game I thought, and ultimately no contest. Granted, Dortmund were poor, but still we looked sharp going forward and defensively solid. Good performances all round and no real scares.

BTW none of the German players who were in the world cup squad played for Dortmund today. The only exception was Großkreutz (who didn't actually play in the summer), as apparently he didn't want to miss the chance to play at Anfield.

 

The passing leading up to Hendersons goal was amazing

 

especially the bit where Sturridge scooped a ball that had gone a foot over the line.

 

We looked sharp but I do worry for Dortmund without the big guns. I know they were missing three big ones in Gundogan, Rues, and Hummels ( and Subotic).

The flick to put Studge in for the opener was sublime,together with pretty much everything else he did.

Lets keep this one up on the board lads. first game is a **** time but the squad touring should be announced on the weekend and we can expect all to travel unlike the big time charlies at city who've sent **** out to the far east.

 

even though its a VERY lazy effort from Astro by taking last years one and recycling it.

Kent will go on loan after this tour Wilson is still developing.
