How do you know this? Were you in the talks with AM? Do you know when and when we weren't talking to them? Do you know when Spurs first got in contact with Alderweireld or AM? Or are you simply saying it so you can have a moan?

You also don' know any of this, and yet regardless of your ignorance you're happy to preach with certainty that club did no wrong.

All the club's are just stepping stones for the players - Tody couldn't care less about us. He reveals he thanked koeman by text; it's wonderful stuff isn't it what a legend to take the time from his day to do that. I couldn't care less he went elsewhere; bring on the next one who can come along for a year or two then move on - and it's no different to spurs, they are simply a stepping stone too, even worse for them the next bracket up is arsenal and Co in the top 4. Even man u are a stepping stone for real Madrid and barca. It's how each club navigates this farce that matters, those who do it best can over time change brackets.

Could Saints have messed up? Maybe. But would it have mattered if they did or not? Nope Toby chose Spurs. Why try to find a negative when 99% of people do not know what went on. Even the press kept changing their mind every few hours. The only thing we do know is Toby joined Spurs and not us.

Did Toby? Where did you get that info?

94 pages and counting of people spouting the same rubbish repeatedly.
shock ...i am not ITK but i would think the only mistake Saints made was to take Athletico at their word. Toby is a proffessional who chose in his opinion a dream offer. We will move on and sign at least 1 decent CB i'm confident.

Thread closed........... move on!!!!!!!!!!

people can keep posting what they like - you are not a mod.

the sad irony is the more you keep posting to the thread, the more it bumps to the top of the page <doh>

Yeah, somebody questioning or making assumptions about what happened between us and Atletico for you equals to trying to find a negative. I'm not tying to find a negative, I'm trying to find out what happened and I'm keeping all tabs open.

And saying that club did might have done wrong is not in itself negative, anyway. Ever heard of constructive criticism? Revealing mistakes in order to learn for them and not to repeat them? You haven't?

Why would fans going over the same thing time after time make a club not repeat that mistake? It won't.

Some people are saying it's Saints fault that Toby didn't stay here. Toby chose to join Spurs. We can't make a player decide which team to join.

Maybe I should change saying negative to why does it matter when Toby himself chose Spurs?

In comparison to us, though, you can keep a player like Eriksen for seasons rather than 1 season (Lovren) or 2 seasons, as is the stay for some of ours. I rate him as your best player, and have not heard a whisper of discontent from him. After the first season, most of our best players are sending signals out to other clubs; and we already know who is likely to be off next window. You did well keeping Bale and Modric longer than expected too - whereas the slightest pressure or media whispers seem to send our players off sideways to other Europa clubs. I understand why really, but its bridging that gap for us that is frustrating - as we have decent momentum which seems exhausting to keep up sometimes. To us fans anyway - maybe it's different from the professionals working within the club. Can't complain about the money.

Always want to ask, though: how is your partnership with Real Madrid doing? Somehow it feels one-sided to me! What on earth do Spurs get out of it (bar the obvious: circa 100m Euros <laugh>)
The only difference is that there are probably more teams that can turn your players' heads.
We're in the Europa League a lot and in the top 6 of the Premier League on a pretty regular basis, so there aren't that many clubs to move up to.
One year in the Europa is something that a lot of clubs have achieved. It's bloody hard to do repeatedly.

Liverpool are probably the best example that I can think of.
They used to be a much bigger draw than us, but recent years have seen them falter and us close the gap.
Players often choose to join us instead of them when we go for the same target, despite their superior finances.

I think that Levy's been selling the club to targets on his supposed vision of the future.
The new training facilities (browse the pictures), amongst the best in Europe, the new stadium, the new focus on youth and the sales to Madrid.
It draws players in for a variety of reasons. Being on London clearly helps, too.

As for our partnership with Madrid, I don't think that it ever really existed.
It was chucked onto the end of a deal to make it sound better, without really discussing what it meant.
We've certainly not benefited from it.

Well it's true. Basically nothing said on some message board by anonymous people will influence the club in any way. That's also why you don't need to worry so much about someone criticizing the club. They can live with it, we won't make them cry.

This is so over simplistic view of the situation. There was a time before Toby made the definitive decision, and Spurs were out of the frame. I don't think that Toby was against staying with us in the begging of the summer. Maybe we could have acted more swiftly at that time, more resolutely, and secure the deal earlier. In the meantime Altletico accepted the bid from Spurts who then agreed terms with Toby, the deal was in a too advanced stage for us overturn it at that point.

Toby 'chose' Spurs, but it wasn't even a choice, because as far as I'm aware we haven't had a bid accepted so we weren't even allowed to negotiate with him. He chose his only option, we didn't even present one. This at least is our fault.

Shame. There are clearly multi-posters, and it is also strongly evident that there are people who know each other in the real world (assuming that we accept that the forum is the virtual world, which in itself is contentious). There are in-jokes and running gags (FLT gagging for Kylie is a case for both points; he needs to get a life) but your mention of hierachy assumes that some posters are more significant than others, and so there is a kind of exclusive club.

I feared that this may be the case, but it has proven the exact opposite. I declared my intention to stop posting when I lost my only real-life friend with whom posting on this board had been a joint laugh. It was the warmth of the response that I got that kept me on here. I am sure there are those who now regret keeping an old duffer like me on the board, but they are far too polite to say so. If I post something half decent I get a response. If I write a pile of poo it gets ignored. That's fine. It's a great club to belong to, and in my view reflects the truly eclectic experience that comes with supporting Saints. In other words, every match I attend confirms my view that Saints fans are the best in the world, and this board reflects this.

That's such a true post (for an old bugger anyway, :)). There are some people that have met or know others. I knew nobody on here but have had the fortune to meet some really nice people and a ref called Tom :), away from the forum and solely because of this forum. People may be surprised at the ones I've not met, if they judge it by our interaction here.

Take Tom (that ref), we are a generation apart in age and are often having heated discussions in here, but we still sometimes meet up at a game for a pint. I only ever met him the first time because he needed a lift to an away game.

There are plenty on here I'd like to meet, including some wit from Scousehampton land!

*Nods* - exactly how I feel, and I've met Chilcs as well, yet still feel that ;)

It's a bit depressing to hear that newbies feel unwelcome - I can't see that at all, but maybe I'm being blinkered by having perhaps entered this exclusive private members club (can't say I've noticed that either) - I think it's just a case of some of us lazy buggers posting more than others. I actually like reading content from people who are new and it's great to see people posting for the first time.

Honestly though, I think people can read posts in a few ways - the worst way to do so is taking everything that's written as a personal dig. It's just not, it's disagreeing. There are occasions where some of the regulars will post things that make me wince a bit, but then that's as much to do with my inference of the tone as it is to any type of reality, which by it's very nature on here is only virtual anyhow. I just think people should perhaps 'infer gently' wherever possible.
