Just went on Saints web. I chose to leave quickly and keep my sanity.

I actually feel quite bad for you guys to be honest. But Koeman knows the game so well, he's surely got an adequate back up plan.

The chances are you'll sign someone relatively unknown for 3 mil and sell him to us in a couple of years for 20mil <grr>

It's disappointing but I don't dislike Spurs that much because of it. AM were the dicks here, you just capitalised on it, as I am sure any other club would have. You have a great centre back there and I hold no ill regard towards him as he gave his all. Just hope we smash you home and away with said centre back replacement scoring both times ;)

    Isn't he a Liverpool fan?

Personally, I do have a lot of problems with Spurs - and I cannot do anything but despise anyone who would choose to play for them - so now TA is in the tosser club. There is noone in football other than Poch whose briefest appearance on the television who sets my teeth so firmly on edge.

I don't don't support Spurs mate! I'm a Liverpool fan, but I've been following this story quite carefully. AM do have good players that often come through their ranks (or just good players to buy in general) - I'm just hoping on your behalf that your ties with them haven't been damaged too badly.

I go to St Marys quite often as I now live in Weymouth, with Bournemouth now in the PL it's going to make my life even easier! So yeah I keep an eye on the south coast PL teams and always wish them well, obviously except when they play us!

Ah i didn't know if he was, just assumed. If he is then still hope we smas them. I do dislike Spurs simply due to Poch and the arrogance of some of their fans, wat I meant was that the Toby situation doesn't add much to the hatred, they just got in there when AM were the ones dicking us around.

Re bigger club...football wise there is very little between us on the pitch so you have point.
Re kane...if we are lucky for developing kane then surely every club is lucky when they develop players. You also forgot to mention Mason and Bentaleb who were very important to us ... could even mention Townsend who (while not a first choice player for us) was a target for Koeman last year...3 youth development players becoming key first teamers in a season is not really luck imo.

I'll give you that all clubs with good academies will develop players and use them, as we do. But to come across a striker of Kane's quality just when you needed it. I would say he gained you a few places in the league with his goals alone.

Yep as in it wasn't luck us unearthing Bale, Lallana, Chamberlain, Walcott, Shaw etc etc. Spurs have just been a established Prem team longer so are more able to keep your players. Kane etc will leave one day tho as like Saints Spurs aren't the biggest team in the Prem (not having a dig just saying facts).

Kinda with Colin Lee on that one. You can't use Kane as a 'lucky stick' to beat them with...

Was changing the post as you posted this...I think Mason and Bentaleb were equally key last season...they set up a lot of move that ended in Kane goals...without them he would not have scored anywhere near that amount of goals in my opinion. 3 players enjoying excellent breakout seasons is not luck imo

Why not? Makes me feel better. I'm sure I'd be denying it if we had brought a Kane though, but if we had brought i Kane though I honestly recon we'd have finished higher up the league.

Poch has a reputation for bringing young players on too. It's good management/set up, no matter how we might like to deny you that on this board!

Little pick-me-up for everyone - Raheem Sterling failed to turn up to training for Liverpool this morning citing "illness".

Good to see it happening far worse for them.

Unfortunately you are right...if we were we would not have lost Carrick (after coming 5th and missing out on 4th by 2 points), Berbatov and Keane (after winning a trophy), Modric (after getting to 1/4 final of CL) and Bale...all in the last 9 years...and we will probably lose lloris this summer...4 truely world class players and 2 excellent premier league players...would have been the basis of a great team...kind of amazed that we have continued to remain 5th and 6th tbh as we are constantly having to rebuild.

We've either been very naive or stubbornly stuck to our principles at the cost of getting the deal done, I can't really believe it being the former with how much nous we've shown previously. I've got mixed feelings on it as I really I like how we go about things and that we try to operate at maximum efficiency and don't let ourselves get messed around, if we believed we had a right to him at £6.8m and they're trying to take us for a ride then screw 'em. On the other hand it still feels like if we'd just decided 'this is our guy' and bid what was needed early instead of playing our patient game when we knew things weren't going to stay quiet forever, or even now just outbid Spurs, then we could've got him, it wasn't a matter totally out of our control we just weren't willing to do what it takes to get it done. That's fair enough in a way though at the moment the disappointment is fresh, just means that now the pressure is on - we trusted our way of doing things and our ability to find similar quality from other sources but now whoever we sign is going to be compared to Toby so they better size up well enough.

I do find it worrying (Though not that worrying as it's not like the back-up option of Maya is going to serve us that poorly, just not gonna 'take us to the next level') as I always fear most when it comes to CBs, so much can be built on good CBs and so much can crumble from poor ones and stable long-term partnerships are so valuable, something we haven't been able to establish for a good while.
