Interview with Cuco...speaks very good English and talks about working previously with Irwin and Tadic.
Perhaps he will turn out be such a gem that Liverpool come in for him when he only has 1 year left on his contract...they may want Southampton's team and our back up. Everyone sits up and takes notice when we sign anyone...first stage is other fans are convinced we've bought a pup and paid too much, second stage is they demand their teams buys the player at any price as he is too good for lil ol' Southampton. Watch this space #fingerscrossed
We know how to add millions in value to something...like putting the price up just because you put 4 apples in a bag. No wonder Atletico wanted us to add a bit of bronze to Toby by taking him on loan.
I think we should all move over the Liverpool board for a day. Start a few threads, chat about Scousehampton. Surely Brenda is aiming on signing us next? We're far better spellers than the local riff raff.
I didn't say I think Gardos has no potential to improve, I'm just pointing out that he was bought in as a 25/6 year old international who should be reaching his peak rather than signings to improve like Mayuka and Gazzaniga (although unfortunately they haven't). I think there's a big difference between slagging off £10m+ players like Mane and Forster after 2 games and expressing discontent with the signing of a player who hasn't performed that well in the Dutch leagues who we're openly saying is back-up. I'm a little worried that he's being talked about as cover for Bertrand as well, why doesn't Koeman have faith in Targett? He was being talked up a lot last preseason as a potential first team contender, why are we signing someone ahead of him?
Hoping the lad does well although the feedback from Twente fans is a little underwhelming. Oh well, never mind, best of luck as a Saint, Cuco!
I found this very misleading. Anyway, I like this bit of information: The 25 year-old arrives at St Mary’s to becomes the first-ever Curaçao international to play for Saints and the second to play in the Premier League. Who the hell was the first one!?
The miracle that is Google revealed (drum roll) Vurnon Anita who plays for Newcastle, now Dutch international but originally from Curacao.
Absolutely, what he's had to do he's done well so far. And his only dodgy game was when the whole team was **** for the Sheff Utd game and he was one of the better performers IMO.
The problem for Gardos is that just after he signed for us, Toby arrived. And then Yoshida had a renaissance. I'm not afraid when he plays, but am aware he is down the pecking order. Perhaps he could now take his chance.
Not slating just saying if we bought in two defenders (I can't see it happening) and a defender had to leave he would be it.
Think the difference between Gardos and Yoshida or Fonte is that the latter two are a bit more cultured. They can dribble a bit, and pass out from the back. Yoshida used to make some bad mistakes, but he has cut those out. Gardos seemsa more conservative, stay-at-home CB who is more prone to just tackle and boot it. Although who knows, maybe if he had a chance to play regularly and establish a partnership he would pass more. But anyways, at least in terms of defense Gardos seems to be just as good as the others which is still the most important thing. He is less good/complete overall than Yoshida/Fonte/Alderweireld, but that doesn't mean he still isn't pretty good. And he was really good against Man U., so there is potential there as well.
Just watched the Audi cup on Red Bull Tv. Pretty uninspiring stuff but Cuco is a worry. I'll call him unpolished. So far I think that he needs a fair bit of work on his positioning, tracking, tackling and passing. I'm no Black Box myself obviously.
He arrived and went straight out with the team to Austria...don't think we can judge Cuco just yet. He would have no idea what his team mates were doing. Whilst I accept that some players can just slip into a side, too early to judge yet.
