Definitely not a meltdown...losing a few players (only 1 so far) and possibly missing out on making a loan deal permanent scarcely compares to losing your Chairman (who was responsible for saving your club), having doubts about your owner, and losing your manager and several first team players. Few in, few out is basically a normal window.

"Even if we sign Toby for £11M once Atletico make it clear that we can't have him for £6.8M, this doesn't stop us from being able to take them to court, once we have ensured that Toby has signed for us."

Is this a possiblity does anyone know?

Yes, we could do this. But as a practical matter, Atletico will be unlikely to sell to us unless we agree to waive our suit as part of the condition. Otherwise it makes no sense for them.

Atletico already sold Alderweireld for 11m, with the risk that we could sue them and they will lose some amount of money. If they sold Alderweireld to us, it'd be the same thing-- they'd get 11m, and they'd still be facing a lawsuit from Saints.

Jay, Vic and Mane are all likely to leave over the next 2 summers I would say. Big Vic's contract will only have a year left to run next summer, so it will be like Clyne's situation this summer.

You're probably right. If they have to give us £2m compo, they're still making a profit over our £6.8m of nigh on £2m with the Spurs fee.

It will be worse then Clyne. Vics agent is a total prick. He will be selling his stories and bullshit to every paper/ media group willing to give him some air time.

Is that our official list, or a list compiled of newspaper reports? Hope the former.
Official. We were looking at Kongolo but he was poor last season. We had scouts at a lot of Feyenoord games and Van Beek impressed us.

Actually I'd say a club that was prepared to let Atletico sleepwalk into losing the player over a technicality isn't all that principled. From the reaction earlier it seems I may be alone in that belief.

Nope, I'm with you on this one Puck.

Also, just my opinion obviously but regardless, it's a dangerous route to take because if it ruffles feathers & if it doesn't work out we've lost a steller player for next to nothing i.e. cira £12M. Crazy when not so long ago on here, there was a strong wave of emotion to purchase at £18M.

I have had dealings with a Spanish company and they were rubbish when it came to honouring the legalities. Cost them a lot when they tried to avoid making final payments, though! If the conversation went something like this: AM we are probably going to cancel your option as we think we can sell him elsewhere for more or we will keep him. SOT Sorry to hear that you don't appear to have a counter offer so our offer is still on the table but let us know if you get a better offer and we will discuss bettering it. AM: Ok unlikely but let's see, we will call you if that happens. No phone call arrives until Spurs interest leaks. Is this still dodgy?

Will people stop saying that Saints let this happen....they might have been happy at the last minute when time ran out as they would probably assume he was now ours, but there is no way that this was planned. It is just how it has panned out. This isn't Nicola we are talking about.

The comments from Toby's agent just shows how ridiculous we all are to believe what papers write when they say things are a done deal. I feel very sorry for Toby stuck in the middle.

P.s. doesn't mean I won't fall for media rubbish on another day about another player. :)
