You are missing the point, Liverpool have offered around £5m (I think), Burnley want nearer to £7m (not £12m). Since the clubs can't agree a figure a tribunal will be asked to place a fair value on the deal, to do this they will take several things into account including any previous bids.
As far as I know the bid was never withdrawn and still lies as accepted by Burnley, the only reason it hasn't happened is because Ings wanted to go to Liverpool (for playing time I presume)
Pretty sure an out of contract Ings would have something to say about it if Liverpool pulled out because of the tribunal fee and was 'forced' to join another team.
"in the region of £8m", initially they asked for around £7m but have probably pushed it up a bit now he has signed to try and get a bit more out of the tribunal.
He probably wouldn't be very happy if you refused to pay the price after getting him to sign before you even knew what the price was
It is a **** situation tbf. If you're out of contract then you're out of contract, age shouldn't matter.
Rules is rules. In the end it is the player who is in the worst place as everything is now out of his control.
The Soccerex 20 U21 Report 1. Raheem Sterling (Liverpool) £35m 2. Marquinhos (PSG) £28.3m 3. Memphis Depay (Man Utd) £23.9m 4. Domenico Berardi (Sassuolo, co-owned by Juventus) £21.7m 5. Jose Gimenez (Atletico Madrid) £21.5m 6. Hakan Calhanoglu (Bayer Leverkusen) £19.5m 7. Mateo Kovacic (Inter Milan) £18.6m 8. Jose Luis Gaya (Valencia) £18.4m 9. Luke Shaw (Man Utd) £18m 10. Aymeric Laporte (Athletic Bilbao) £17m 11. Kurt Zouma (Chelsea) £16.2m 12. Youri Tielemans (Anderlecht) £13.8m 13. Alexsandar Mitrovic (Anderlecht) £12.9m 14. Anderson Talisca (Benfica) £12.9m 15. Emre Can (Liverpool) £12.1m 16. John Stones (Everton) £12m 17. Anthony Martial (Monaco) £11.3m 18. Divock Origi (Liverpool) £10.9m 19. Calum Chambers (Arsenal) £10.7m 20. Hector Bellerin (Arsenal) £10.5m I reckon even Luke Shaw thinks he's been overrated there Must admit I've not heard of some of these players, such as Berardi, Gimenez & Calhanoglu . Some decent young players on there though like Tielemans & Mitrovic at Anderlecht. See a few Prem clubs have been linked with the later this window, the former is still very young but quite experienced. Belgian league is a decent breeding ground for young players it seems.
Calhanoglu plays for Leverkusen in midfield, moved there from Hamburg last season. Talented player, although his form has been a bit up and down. One to watch out for, but as he plays for Turkey, unlikely to make much of an impact on the international stage. BTW Stones must be awful if he's only two places better than Origi
I would say those prices are pretty realistic from a European wide point of view, they don't take the English valuations into account
Shaw and Chambers are both signifcantly less than what was paid for them a year ago, so you might be right. I which case Liverpool are pretty justified to want 50 million for Sterling on this evidence.
Except they're not determining a fair price, they're determining compensation. It would be interesting to see what would happen if the tribunal were to name the Spurs "bid" (presumably it was an offer for compensation, as a transfer bid would make no sense) in their reasons for setting a compensation amount high enough that Liverpool pull out. Assume that then 1) Ings does not want to join Spurs, and instead joins, say, Swansea. Is it right that the compensation should be influenced by a bid from a club that he had no intention of joining, given that he's a free agent? 2) Ings offers to go to Spurs, but they withdraw their bid. In which case, why should the bid affect the fee that Liverpool should have to pay? 3) Ings joins Spurs. How much should Spurs pay to Burnley - the 12m bid or the (presumably lesser) amount ordered by the tribunal? I also fear a situation where, say, Man U want to buy Loftus-Cheek from Chelsea (I'm assuming that he would be eligible for compensation) after his contract there runs out. He really wants to join Man U and has absolutely no interest in Liverpool, because, you know, we're awful, only got our history, not a big club etc. etc. etc. Liverpool also have no intention signing Loftus-Cheek as his wages would be too expensive. However, as Man U and Chelsea can't agree on compensation, the case looks to be going to tribunal . Liverpool therefore offer 250 million, way more than he's worth. Should that really be taken into consideration? What if Man City and Arsenal also made similar bids? Then afterwards, all could pull out. It just seems a highly dangerous situation to accept bids made where there's no obligation to follow-through as actual market prices. It's like waste-of.time bidders on ebay.
Depends, Chelsea or Man U might still sniff around. Or we may even just keep him (looks unlikely though).
