LA RIOJA (7.05) – my regular readers will recall that I tipped this filly first time up and she ran a very creditable race in defeat, at Lingers Park, beaten just half a length by a more experienced Hannon hotpot. La Rioja is sure to have learned a lot that day though and can be expected to be more the finished article here. Mr Candy’s barn is in good form, at the time of writing 6 of his last 18 have obliged (that’s 33% for those poor at maths), whilst he knows what it takes to win this heat having triumphed in the race 12 months ago. I think La Rioja can take this before stepping up in class.

NIGEL (8.40) – old boy Gosden’s charge really should break his duck here after a very near miss at Kempers Park last time. I know the family very well (Nigel’s that is not old boy Gosden’s). His dam, Deirdre, was Listed placed and he is a related to those very useful stayers Duncan (Irish St Leger winner) and Samuel (Doncaster Cup winner). Old boy Gosden won this race in ’14 whilst he’s another handler in decent form right now. Would be surprised if Nigel remained a maiden after this contest. Longer term he is just the sort of animal that those ‘jumping boys’ would love to get there hands on.

Good win for Dustin. Strolled it in the end really Rafa had nothing to offer and struggled with his serve all evening.

This is the 4th time in 5 years a player outside the top 100 has dumped out Rafa so it was no surprise. Sad to see the once mighty Rafa struggling to beat these guys but he's not as good as he was, especially on grass. The results speak for themselves.

Andy and Novak in contrast both travelling strongly on the bit...no sets dropped yet.

Old pal MR BOSS MAN has changed stables and runs on the flat in the next at Tipperary. I'll take a dabble.

Not to be for the BOSS MAN but wait till we see this guy back over hurdles over 2m2f. I'll stick with him, he has a very good pot in him.
 
Nadal might as well give up playing in Grand Slams, he has not recovered from his catalogue of injuries so he has less chance of winning than Federer these days. Next he will be getting beaten by the British number six – just as soon as we find one!

Those that want to continue the fantasy that Murray is going to win Wimbledon again at least have it confirmed that his route to the Final is theoretically easier. All they need now is somebody to put Djokovic out or his mother to hire a shrink in the next few days to get him to stop beating himself up every time he is losing – what stops Murray being a great is not tennis ability but mentality.

Murray's route is no easier than it was before. Nadal would have been a much easier match than Dustin or did I witness an aberration tonight?
 
I think your right Beefy, I think Nadal would have been better for Anda Murra in his current form. I'd love to see a suprise winner this year.
 
Stans the outsider I highlighted pre tourney, he was 16s which looked generous imo. Didn't back him. It's between Murray and Novak, the final is priced up as 15/8, which I thinks fair. The French Open showed chinks in Novaks mental strength I didn't think existed. Even against Murray, in the 3rd and 4th sets he seemed 'scared' the longer the rally went on which is really unthinkable for the worlds standout player, or certainly, this years standout. I think if Murray can take the shackles off and have a go at him, those mental chinks of Novaks could resurface and that's my worry for him. Murrays still being seriously undestimated by a few on here. He's already beaten Novak in 2 Slam finals, people shouldn't forget that! Novak is the best player but he's not unbeatable and certainly not in a Wimbledon final against the home crowd favourite.

He blew Rafa out a the water last year didn't he, but that form looks very shabby now <laugh> I can't see any outside of Stan, Andy or Novak winning it. Slams very rarely go left field, Cilic won one I guess, and Stan a couple, but from memory I'm struggling to remember any outside the big 4 in the last 4/5 years. Often you'll see someone like Kyrgios or Dimitrov get QFs or SFs but no further as usually to get to the final you'll need to beat 2 from the top 4 which rarely happens for these guys just below that level.

I'd draw a line through Roger as much as the guys mint, and possibly the greatest we've seen, he'll need to hope Murrays on an off day to beat him and similar to Rafa, he could even be out before then too.

I'd tend to agree it's hard to see past those mentioned and Federer if he's not feeling the affects as much.

Just pondering whether to have a small each way play but I think I will leave it alone.
 
Cilic at 66s or Dimitrov at 50s would be my 'gun to head' outsiders but like I say neither has a strong enough chance of progressing to the final for me to take an each way punt. Think you can get odds on players to reach a certain stage though, but maybe that's just the big boys?

Get your dosh on Serena in the women's, keep it simple lol
