Glad I don't live anywhere near Heathrow - a report has backed the construction of a third runway. 800 homes would have to be demolished.

Economically it makes sense but the environmental concerns are too great IMO.

Will cause a few problems though politically.

Officially, the government's policy is to back a third runway, but Boris Johnson, as the Mayor of London, is staunchly against it.
Furthermore, Zac Goldsmith, Tory MP for Richmond in London, is also staunchly against it, and has said he would resign his seat and stand as an independent if the government pursues plans to build it.

He is now running to be the Tory candidate for Mayor of London next year, and a leading Labour candidate for Mayor, Sadiq Khan, is also against the runway.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

David Cameron also said in 2009 there was no chance of a third runway at Heathrow.

If we don't do something about Heathrow, then it will start to lose a lot of traffic to the likes of Schipol and Frankfurt.. It is, honestly, probably beyond it's limit, capacity wise.

Another sweltering day, and the same tired pic of a packed Brighton beach.

It is effing hot though. Soton not as blazing as Brighton?

Haha, Brighton and Bournemouth are the 'go-to' beaches for the press! I've avoided the beach today for precisely the reason that it'll be hideous down there (although I must say there has been an influx of remarkably attractive ladies here today).
