Lijnders is also an attacking manager. And this is the issue - Rodgers has similar minded coaches around him. Where are the people who will actually coach defence and tactics? This was a golden chance to get quality coaches in.
Rodgers has this defend with the ball idea buried very deeply in his mind. I think he is certain that he can get the record he needs with this method and is therefor devoting an incredible amount of time to it.
and yet our best season in years was due to playing in a counter-attacking way, relying on the opposition to come forward with the ball. Some of our worst displays have actually been when we've had 60%+ possession, acting like headless chickens.
but we had the players up top to give it to fast via middle players and passing. we might have held the ball back and looked for sides to come at us but we didn't give away needless frees to set up attacks. our defending is not woeful... not until a top team picks it apart with real quality passing but from set pice we throw in goal after goal after goal after goal. thats where it needs fixing day one.
Our defending is atrocious in every aspect. Teams find it so easy to run right through our midfield and attack our defence at pace. Happens in most games.
Liverpool striker Rickie Lambert is the subject of interest from West Brom. The big frontman, who is expected to leave Anfield this summer, is wanted by Baggies boss Tony Pulis. Lambert has also been linked with Queens Park Rangers and Premier League new boys Bournemouth. The 33-year-old turned down a £5million transfer to Aston Villa back in February but is now resigned to moving on in search of regular first-team football. With Divock Origi and Danny Ings arriving to bolster Brendan Rodgers’ attacking options and the club pursuing a deal for Christian Benteke, Liverpool are looking to off-load Lambert, as well as fellow strikers Mario Balotelli and Fabio Borini. West Brom have already snapped up former Liverpool scout Mel Johnson. Johnson joined the Reds shortly after the appointment of Damien Comolli as technical director in 2010. He was heavily involved in the acquisition of Jordon Ibe from Wycombe and Sheyi Ojo from MK Dons. The Reds parted company with Johnson as part of a shake up last November. Johnson and fellow Baggies new recruit Andy Thorn, the former Coventry City boss, have been involved in drawing up West Brom’s list of summer targets.
we don't concede that many because we sit off deep and isolate forwards. direct running and pressing kills us and nobody in midfield takes it off skertl and shako. the high press kills and the CMS don't move enough. milner and can and henderson should make it possible to move and take it off these guys... and of course not run though us. each has more physicality than allen and gerrard who was blown off it time and again embarrassingly. I'll wager we'll be a little better this time round in general play with that set up. Last year i think we threw in half our goals against to set peice by December. after the utd game the team gave up with i found unforgivable so the goals after were a lot of easy ones through lack of team work.
If we make our money back on lambert he is not be a flop.. we will be quite lucky. i would have half expected a freebie or 1mil fee.
Ah right - when I say defence, I'm referring to the whole defensive structure which includes the DM. Agree that if we have Can holding, with Hendo and Milner ahead, then we can add more protection. But then we're still masking the inefficiencies in the back line i.e. Skrtel.
they are what they are. after spunking 20mil on lovern we are stuck with them. i know giving a new deal to skertl is not ideal but at least it then makes him ours and he can't just up sticks and leave us for nothing. we have at least addressed RB in some form with both clyne and wisdom as options there. similar players to my mind.
Gazzetto dello Sport are reporting that Barcelona have agreed a £64m fee for Chelsea and Manchester City target Paul Pogba, the 22-year-old Juventus midfielder. from bbc. the side who can't sign anyone have signed one already and are agreeing a fee for this guy? i presume the 64mil relates to the collapse in the euro and the english clubs will be watching. we will see what happens but if barca are in then i reckon its game over for city. I'd immediately bid on busquets meself!
All we'll have is youth. The average age of our squad has been lowered massively after the loss of stevie and Johnson. In 6 months, we'll be botching about the lack of leaders on the pitch, nobody being able to stick the ball in the net and having a lightweight midfield...the great BR experiment; a success or a lost 3 years and £200m? There'll be no excuses now.
