"They are history-makers again, the third ever England team to get to a semi-final," said Sampson.
"We now join the 1966 and the 1990 club, and I'm very proud of the whole group."

Yeah, this is probably why England never win anything. When Germany get to a semi-final the supporters complain. When England get to a semi-final the side is hailed as historic and goes down into the history books. And apparently getting to the semi-final of a women's world cup equals winning the men's world cup. I don't think the women's game is ever going to be taken that seriously until people in the women's game stop wanting to compare it at every turn to men's football.

It does stink a bit of "we've achieved our goal", you don't want that kind of mentality with 2 games left between you and the Cup.

Sweden won the U21's Euros 4-3 on penalties after it ended 0-0 AET.

Ilori started the game keeping a clean sheet.

Hope he gets a decent chance next year, plenty of experience for a young player

Sounds a cagey game. Did you get to see that lb for Sweden we are linked to ?

No, I've not watched any of it as don't have BT sport which is a shame, as I really enjoy watching the U21's to see if any hidden gems around.

I remember watching the tournament where Germany smashed us in the final and I looked at Ozil and thought this kid can play... he was playing for Breman then I think and got a move soon after.

It'll be interesting to see what's what with Ilori this preseason. At minimum I can see him play europa. But he's got to last all preseason without injury.

It was a pretty poor game compared with a few of the earlier games. Illori held his own against Guidetti but Sweden didn't threaten much really, Carvalho went missing and missed the decisive penalty.

Yeah, commented on that earlier. It's one of those weird ones where in some ways it's no surprise at all and in others it's completely out of the blue.

He was a bit of a nutter tbf. Reckon Leicester are a good bet to go down now.
