I agree with most of that, but just because someone is successful it doesn't mean they're necessarily talented, One Direction are the epitome of style over substance. There are plenty of successful acts who are musically piss-poor and their only real talent is being good looking.
Have you heard of a band called Dark Stares? I just started listening to them and they're really good.
There are plenty of people who are much better looking than the members of one direction and yet aren't in the most successful band on the planet right now. I always say that if things didn't require some degree of talent then everybody would do them.
I think music really is subjective. I used to really hate generic pop music and I still dislike it, but I understand that it appeals to some people and telling them their favourite music is ****e isn't going to change their opinion so I just let them get on with it. Personally, I like Arctic Monkeys, Passion Pit, The Neighbourhood, Royal Blood, Lorde, Marina and the Diamonds, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, The Beatles and Death Cab for Cutie. Never really been a fan of Oasis but I understand the hype and why they're so popular.
I didn't to use mind Kraftwerk or Yellow tbf, but I just think it's very important that talented musicians, whether they are singers, songwriters or are especially brilliant on their chosen instrument, don't die away. In fact, it winds me up so much I just committed suicide.
What Hip-Hop artists do you like out of interest? Also I agree that he is a bellend of the highest order, doesn't stop me enjoying his music though.
Each to their own, but as I find Kanye a colossal bellend and don't listen to the genre and I consider Florence and Daltrey to be two of the worst live vocalists around, I'm pretty relieved to be abroad and missing it. I might check out some of the other acts online when I get back.
