If we're looking at 7 signings (this summer or January), at £5m a pop, then that's about £25m out of our transfer budget, plus the increased wage bill. I'm not entirely convinced we'll have a lot more than that available. Someone like van Dijk for £8m wouldn't be out of the question I guess, but if we're talking much more than that then we might have to choose if we want someone enough to prevent another permanent signing. From the little rumours, Brady, Mbokani, Gestede, N'Doye have all been around that kind of transfer figure.
Though of course it helps if a couple are on frees like Mulumbu. Might free up a bit more for another deal.
We are already very well equipped in midfield. Certainly no need for another except left side. And as said, Odjidja-Ofoe is his replacement. Plus QPR paid over the odds for him and will likely want that kind of price for him.
Fer, no thank we don't need him was not up to all the hype that surrounded him Think our midfield is fine would just like to see another CB, RB and a winger lets just keep the squad together
I'd still like to see: A striker (seeing as RvW and/or possibly Hooper may well go), a CB, a RB, a left-sided defender/midfielder (Brady-esque).
I meant that I'd rather retain Lafferty than pay £5m+ for Gestede as a back-up for CJ. Mbokani would be competition for CJ and thus a better shout, IMO. It's more an issue about how the budget is spent, as has been said in recent posts here.
Definitely, although having looked at the list of players released from Prem clubs this summer, there's no real obvious signings left.
My read on the budget is that the 6-7 players would include Dorrans and Mulumbu, so that means 4-5 players now. The £3m fee for Dorrans probably came out of last year's budget or the £4m we tried to spend on him was carried forward to this year, so £20-25m seems about right. Van Dijk would take about a third of that. Brady would take a similar amount, although both deals would include PL survival clauses and such. Vedlin on loan would probably cost around £1m in the present climate, which could be balanced by a loan fee for RvW if the rumours about Spartak are true. Thus about £5-6m for each of another two players would seem about right.
Leroy is wanted elsewhere so it seems! http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2015/06/28/report-sunderland-boss-advocaat-keen-on-qprs-leroy-fer/
Possibly the exception there. Just found this article on him:http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...ti-is-no-henrik-larsson-and-has-lots-to-prove Clearly biased and bitter, but scathing.
We must also bear in mind that we do not get the ' Premiership fortunes ' up front. A lot of the money needed to cover lost years losses, transfer fees and increased wages will have to be borrowed until the extra money is received and that does not come cheap.
Hard to judge how much is bias and how much is truth, but it certainly does raise some concerns, particularly in terms of attitude. His serious injury problems in the past are also concerns.
Very true, 1950, but I'm sure the club has reserves it can draw upon and much of player fees are paid out on a scheduled basis because of that. The interest rates on a short-term loan with a guaranteed pay-back period shouldn't be that daunting though.
Yes, I noticed that as well, and Andreu's better performance was with a smaller team as well. It'll be very interesting to see what Andreu and Odjidja-Ofoe can add to the team this season.
