Can't ask for more from him, excellent attitude too...a few others would be advised to do similar

His contact is up next year too I think. .. (anyone know for sure?)

Cynic in me says he wants to have a blinder to get himself out of dodge city asap..hope he stays, mind. Him and perez stand out prospects currently

As i said on my other post, we had all that Ayew rumour with FOUR 1st team left wingers on the books (Aarons, Ameobi, Gouff and Cabella). Genuinely, we'll end up with about 2 players of little repute and MAYBE replace any departures. It's the fcking "purple player" rule, which takes precedence over any "let's win something" or "be ambitious" notion of player recruitment. I doubt an idiot like Charnley even considers them as left wingers. He probably counts them all in the category of "winger and as a result 2 per side is more than sufficient. If someone happens to lose sanity and bid for Sammy or Gouff, we might replace. But with Aarons fit, then elsewhere with SDJ fit, Steven Taylor fit, Haidara/Dummy fit, Cisse fit, Tiote fit we'll genuinely be back to where we were last season with Pardew claiming he had a squad good enough to challenge for Europe. Dummy just reminded us all this same group won 6 on the bounce and beat Chelsea, Man City, and were 5th in November.

I think we've all been suckered in by the media's spin on "6 players" and thanks to Carver we all feel 6 is a minimum! My personal opinion on the minimum is we need genuine quality on the right side, up front and at CB. I don't think we can afford to get so depressed if we only bring in 3, as long as the quality is right up there. We also cannot expect upgrades on Tiote, Colo, Cabella, etc. I think we'll end up with one net new. Sissoko and Cisse will be gone and replaced, plus we'll bring in a CB.

I think the core of the squad are past there best now and if we don't start replacing now, then really it's just putting off a massive spend in future, so I can't see why they're scratching their arses in the office, it's not helping.

Quality down the right, the left, and the middle of midfield (some sort of creative force/wizard), CB, LB, and upfront all necessary before Mike Ashley's stated ambition is anywhere near reality.

In fairness, and I don't like it either, he will be like a new signing. He didn't play much last year but hopefully will be available this season.
Him and sdj are like new signings.

I'd like to see dost, Austin, Hughes come in.
A decent lb.... Cole on loan If at all possible.
At least one if not 2 top centre backs.

But the 2 that missed all last season will add to squad this season

Let's hope he can remain injury-free.

    Bags of potential <ok>

He should not be seen as a new signing until he's played a season where he makes at least 20 apps, and those can be cup and PL apps.

I'd personally give me immediate starts in cup comps and he should be playing pre-season.

Not entirely sure about that. Would you require a genuine new signing to play 20 games before considering them signings?
Anyway, it's all just perspectives. Hopefully we will get the players we need on top of the 4 we can already expect on top of last season (Aarons, sdj and forest lads)

I see in the press today it was saying if Sammy signs his contract they'll loan him out for the season. FFS he's 23, if he hasn't made it yet do you think he ever will at PL level.

Only was offered a contract so we could get compo! If he signs it then yes loan him out - he either becomes good or some muggish team might buy him off us!

No, I'm just pointing out the flaw in logic some people who might claim "he's like a new signing" when he's not proven himself a worthy asset yet. He's "like a new signing" when he's having impact which he hasn't really yet. He's had one stand out sub appearance in the league, and one good pre-season game.

Aarons better sign a new deal. I hate to be a skeptic but its tough to think he wants to stay at our shambolic establishment.

Absolutely should not be considered anything like a 'new signing' but I really hope that McClaren makes up his mind and thinks I am gonna give this lad a proper chance to show what he can do and play him regularly.

But that's part of the problem for some fans.

Many fans are wanting , amongst other purchases, a new left winger/midfielder. If we buy a new left winger/midfielder then that person will play. Fans will then complain Aarons isn't being given a chance. If we don't buy a new left winger/midfielder then a lot of fans will be in uproar complaining about the lack of purchases.

From what I saw last season this kid can make a difference. Proper coaching and ego control and we can have a real player. Him and Ayoze will be a joy. Personally I don't think we need a first team winger. I'd rather the money go to a CF/CB with a decent winger on the side(better than ober/gouff), like an ince.

Personally I'd like us to go and get Gray from Birmingham. If we mix and match with him, Aarons and Cabella, they would good options for a club like us. Throw in Will Hughes and we will start to get some energy and craft about us.

You have to assume we will shift on Goufran, Obertan and Sammy if we are serious about change.

    Don't forget Marveaux. 8. Good 9.

Really we never had Tiote, Saylor or SDJ either. So that's 12.

    Darlow

    Lascelles
    Ferguson
    Good
    Saylor

    Tiote
    Vuckic
    BIgi

    Marveaux
    Aarons
    SDJ

    Sub Mbabu

So we've already signed a new full team. This is just poor reporting and misrepresentation by the press. They are on a crusade against poor Mike. You gotta feel for the bloke really.
