Van Nistelrooy was a fantastic lone striker, you`re not confusing him with RvP are you

Can't recall him playing up top alone TBH, thought he always had a partner apart from those away European games where Fergie liked the 4411 system

He didn`t like partners, most people said he just couldn`t play with one.

I agree with the Costa suggestion, though like you say it is far too early to call him great. Suarez is far better in a 2/3 man attack, he would not be nearly as effective on his own.

Suarez was brilliant as a lone man last season when Studge was out injured (only missed nine games though). He is better in a front two or three though.

There are a few others who I think would have been good as a lone front man but they played before the lone striker became fashionable. Alan Shearer in his earlier days would have been able to do it. Ian Rush would have been superb at it (although he effectively did play it with Dalglish being his partner and dropping into the hole so much).

Stan Collymore would have been great in the role too, he could do everything but was more interested in "other activities" <doh>

Good call with Shearer <ok>

Rush could have but I was only talking Premier League. Collymore was never great.

True but he could have been, he just wasn't bothered enough. He was quick (acceleration and sprint), could use both feet and was good in the air. He could be the main striker (at Forest) or support guy (for Fowler at Liverpool; top scoring partnership twice and I believe they broke a record too). He was just a stubborn self obsessed arrogant ****er that thought he knew better than everyone else.

Liverpool have made contact with Italian side Atalanta about the availability of right-back Davide Zappacosta, 23, who played in Italy Under-21s' victory over England on Wednesday. (Express, from Gazzetta dello Sport)

I'd be able to have a name change and keep a 'Z' in my name <diva>

Zaberto...? (Zappacosta + Roberto Firmino)

Legend has it that he and David James spit-roasted that Alison Rudd once. Or perhaps she enjoyed it, and it was more than once.

Raheem Sterling has been told he must set aside any thoughts of a move to Manchester City, and instead prepare to join Liverpool's pre-season tour.
The England star has made clear he wants out of Anfield by insisting he will not sign a new contract, with his agent demanding the club accept an offer from their Premier League rivals.

He's gonna have to travel to Australia and Malayasia if his new club don't cough up the dosh soon.<laugh>

And FSG should publicly tell his agent to **** off, he has no jurisdiction over the club.:emoticon-0173-middl
