Maybe he was surrounded by world class players and protected for many years by Xabi Alonso, a fantastic defensive midfielder.

Outrageous argument. Alonso is a quarterback, not a Makalele type player, he doesn't give that much protection; hence why Liverpool played him next to Mascherano and Bayern play him next to Lahm/Alaba. Ramos is, as Pelletron has stated, the very definition of a worldclass centreback.

In your opinion. :P

Pique's better (which should annoy United fans) :)

"outrageous argument" is my opinion, the rest of that post is fact which, when read as a whole, renders the opening statement to be factual rather than opinion too :)
I still do not think Ramos is world class. But that's end it there, people must think there is actual transfer news.

For what it's worth, in my opinion Sergio Ramos is easily world class, and is definitely in the top 5 CBs in the world. He would improve United massively, although it won't happen. It's pretty obvious the speculation is purely to increase his contract negotiations.

Exactly what I was saying yesterday. There is no world class cb's atm.

There has to be. The level of world class may ebb and flow, but even if the current top 100 CBs in the world disappeared, there would still be world class CBs. The level of the world's best CBs would just be a lot lower. You can just about win the Champions League with non-world class players in a few positions (Chelsea did it, for one, with a non-world class manager too), but you do not win World Cups without a world class player in every single position. This conversation can be had with the England team, where one can argue the toss about one or two players being world class or not. Opinion would come into that a lot more. In this case, though, it's a shut book.
