Of these players how many look to have a genuine chance of making it into the seniors? For me it's Kane, Ward-Prowse, Loftus-Cheek, Stones and Chambers. Players like Gibson, Carroll and Chalobah (who I thought was the worst of the lot) keeping these players out is hurting us in the short and long term.

In the commentary they expressed dismay over the discrepancy between the total amount of top-flight appearances (this season) of the players in each team. There was something like a 100 appearances in favour of the Italians. JWP and Chambers would have added 50 between them. Obviously Southgate preferred fringe players from struggling championship teams; Chalobah with 11 appearances for Reading plus 4 for Burnley and Jake Forster-Caskey with 14 for Brighton, over JWP.

FA moron said:
"I don't want to hide behind the fact we're devastated to have been eliminated in the group stages," Ashworth said. "We're disappointed with the group that we hoped and thought might go a bit further. But there are some success stories.

What a brilliant attitude. You don't send a team to a tournament "hoping to ago a bit further than the group stages". You send them to ****ing win it. "Doing our best", the mating call of the loser, is why we haven't won anything. English players are indoctrinated to accept mediocrity.

The most pathetic thing is that we have plenty of players eligible who have lots of top flight experience, but for some bizarre reason, they weren't picked.

Southgate's squad selection, team selection, formations and tactics were all beyond a joke. It seems like he just picks his favourites to me

How did Tom Carroll start every game? He was worse than JWP, yet was irreplaceable?!

Carroll didn't play against Italy. He was good in the two games he played. The problem with Ward-Prowse is Southgate played him in the double pivot of a 4-2-3-1 when he should have been playing central behind the striker, with Carroll in the double pivot. Liam Moore also got dropped after a great game against Sweden and then England let in three without him. And Garbutt seems awful at left back, Targett should have been playing instead.

In that case, why drop JWP? I thought he was the golden boy. Why do England do so well before tournaments? I suppose we are in the top group of teams, but just not good enough.

He can't be Southgate's golden boy if he was dropped completely after the opener. England just don't seem capable of picking their best players and playing their strongest system. They can get away with it in qualifying. But they get found out against the better teams.

Chalobah was completely useless as well, but seemed to play every minute.

Southgate have played Loftus-Cheek instead. It seems he wanted a player above 6ft in there. Loftus-Cheek is much better on the ball and better in the air.

Most of the other teams didn't pick their best available team aswell, if they had we would still have been battered
