You got beaten by DTLW on the Clyne thread. Nice with the reliable info tho. Shows Clyne told the club one thing but wanted another. But we can't afford to have moany players this season.

Not a Liverpool fan, but sorry what a load of old guff. How is he being bullied? I think his contract has two years left to run and Liverpool started contract talks because it is a player they want to keep. I believe there last offer was something like £100k a week, up from £35k a week. If this is bullying, I would like to be bullied!
He has turned this offer down, and it appears Liverpool will sell him if there valuation is met, again where is the bullying in that, or are Liverpool just expected to give him away?

I refer as always on this topic to the ex-player mafia and the press bully tactics. Carragher, Barnes et al in particular. 'He's achieved nothing and should stay' - too right he's achieved nothing: that's why he wants to leave for a club who is actually going somewhere.
'He will ruin his career' - no he won't. Liverpool aren't the only team who can look after a player. They haven't nurtured him from a pre-teen, nor are they all he knows. Infact they poached him about five years ago in exactly the same manner. Yet he is apparently about to ruin his career by making a move, as no one can nurture youth like Liverpool can.

Players leave clubs within contract all the time - Saints should know, and so should Liverpool, as they are one way traffic in that direction on the whole. And there are no ex-Saints decreeing these players are throwing their career down the drain, when in reality it's more likely when going from smaller feeder club to top club. They mainly head - firmly within contract, remember - up the M1 or whichever road leads to Liverpool; but that's acceptable to those halfwit pundits, as that way lies footballing success.

He wants to leave the club. Conduct business behind closed doors, and we can be spared the baseless soothsaying, doommongering, and wise predictions from brave one-club warriors like Carra. I'm merely proffering a clenched fist in support for someone willing to go against the general flow.

Yeah, german media is saying we're not ready to pay the initial price and are negotiating them down. Elia has made it clear he doesnt want to return to Bremen. I imagine it will be somewhere around 2.5m-3m.

Fair enough I won't mind too much if that's the case n he's not one of the higher earners, I reckon he'll be useful in the early Europa rounds.

£2m I think.

Elia is average player at best, but ok, that's not bad, he can provide some squad depth. But the problem is that Koeman often gets the idea that it's better to put Elia in the starting lineup, in expense of Tadić, Long or Mane.

He's worth keeping for £2m.
Yeah, most certainly. I'm glad we're not ditching him after all, or that hug and slap up at Newcastle counts for nothing. Agreed that, on recent evidence, I wouldn't want a fully-fit Tadic to be displaced from his position, but then Elia had very little time to show his qualities [<- say it in Ronald's voice :)], and he was making an adjustment to the PL at the time. I think he could become a steal at £2M.

This is pretty much spot on TSS. I would also add that in Premier League terms, £2m is the equivalent of a 10p mix up for us mere mortals.

I think at that price with a good pre season under Koeman, and the extra games this year, it would be a decent addition. Plus he WANTS to play for Southampton, unlike some. Think he tried to hard at times last year to impress, so hopefully will be more relaxed and part of the team by signing a contract.
