Just been thinking about the best team that could be made from players who have played for Yorkshire teams over the years (and I include Middlesbrough in Yorkshire). We've only been in the top flight for a few years and it was also difficult not to include too many Leeds players. I came up with this;

Ron Springett (Sheff Wed)
Trevor Cherry (LUFC); Michael Dawson (Hull C) John Charles (LUFC) Ray Wilson (Huddersfield)
Tony Currie (Sheff Utd) Billy Bremner (LUFC) Raich Carter (Hull C) Ian Butler (Hull C)
Wilf Mannion (Midd'bro) Denis Law (Huddersfield)

I'm sure others can do better

I sense a generational gap here!

I'd struggle to leave out Cantona or Roland Nilsson. There's also Chris Waddle.

Generation is going to work against me.

Consideration for more recent players given to:

Cantona
Yeboah
Ravanelli
Juninho
Waddle
Geovanni
Rush
Fowler
Okocha

Gary Sprake
Paul Reaney
Norman Hunter
Jack Charlton
Paul Madeley
Peter Lorimer
Billy Bremner
Johnny Giles
Eddie Gray
Mick Jones
Allan Clarke

I reckon thats probably the best

Yorkshire clubs have won 11 league championships and 11 FA cups between them and we've got one FA cup runners up medal. There's also a smattering of League Cups and one UEFA cup.

If we were being completely objective, which we've ever right not to be on the t'internet, then I doubt there'd be a City player in the 11 let alone 3...

Pfft, as if you don't wanna argue that Michael Dawson is better than Norman Hunter was <laugh>

What about a Yorkshire XI (born in Yorkshire)

This has been done before, so this isn't mine, I just nicked it from an article a while back(Bruce's favourite formation)...

Paddy Kenny

Michael Dawson
Frazer Richardson
Matt Kilgallon

Aaron Lennon
James Milner
Fabian Delph
Stewart Downing
Jonny Howson

Cameron Jerome
Fraiser Campbell

Gary Sprake
Paul Reaney
Norman Hunter
Jack Charlton
Paul Madeley
Peter Lorimer
Billy Bremner
Johnny Giles
Eddie Gray
Mick Jones
Allan Clarke

It depends on whether you measure it upon simply how good the player was or how good the player was whilst they played in Yorkshire.

For example, Raich Carter was a finer footballer than every one of them, but was of course past his prime when he played for City.

Barmby over Jonny Howson, or is this a currently playing team?
