I reckon Charlie will stay, he must all these rumours. & non rumours & must be pissed off with it all.

Spam have walked away from the price (£15mill) not Austin, they want him for 10.
When we cannot get £15mill for him....he will go to Spam for £12mill...it will be July before he goes...but go he will

OR....

Southampton make £10 million bid for Charlie Austin, are told to bugger off and now have no further interest.

Newcastle will offer him the No9 shirt......erm <laugh> Wow the Newcastle No9 shirt! that will really do it!

And all we are demanding is £20 million - I hope. If Chelsea are interested we should get close to that, but letting Adel go for nothing to a CL Club doesn't give grounds for optimism
With only a year left on his current contract, I'd be surprised if we could get that amount.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Charlie stays.

I getting that feeling as well. If the teams won't pay up then he won't go.
He don't want to go to Newcastle
Not good enough for Chelsea
Liverpool/Spuds not interested
West Ham/Saints won't pay the money
Palace would be 10 steps backwards.

If Charlie does stay, it probably puts an end to any hopes he may have had in playing for England at the Euros next year, especially with Kane, Berahinho and Ings all available after stepping up from the U21s. Maybe he got the impression that was the case whilst sat on the bench for the last two internationals?

If he does stay (fingers crossed), that can only improve our chances of another return to top flight, but he needs to have the right players alongside for service.

I don't see how the club can afford to spurn the opportunity to cash in on Austin. The only possible justification would be a gamble on going straight back up, and that is a very big long-shot.

I kind of get it. If no one is willing to pay a fair price (15 plus), then his goals in the championship next year are highly likely to be worth the £10 million we would end up getting for him. Especially when you factor in we would spend some of that on a replacement.

Put it another way, would you pay £6 million for his services for one year in the championship? I think many would.

His goals next season are only worth the £10m if we are promoted, though. Keeping Austin would give us a much better chance of promotion, but still too big a gamble imo.

TBH he didn't even get a look in in the England friendly and bar 3 of the normal strikers getting injured he won't feature anyway.
I also think he may struggle to score as many goals next season.

A fair point. The cynic in me would point out that his goals would also be valuable if they stop us getting relegated!!

What I'm about to say makes me very sad, but is the state of the modern game such that £10m isn't such a huge gamble any more? We're at a point with our finances that if the owners pulled the pin, we're doomed anyway, so why not add another £10m? In poker terms, we're pot committed!
