When we DID play Taarabt this season, it was the same as just playing 10 men - he couldn't be arsed, and did nothing. I'm delighted he's gone.


Oh, one more thing - I apologise for using the term 'fancy dan' if you think that's derogatory. In any case, "fat lazy bastard" is probably more accurate, so let's use that instead...

I am fully aware you need a balance of types. Out of interest, which of my statements made you think otherwise?

Now again for someone who struggles with is intelligence so much on this forum that he needs to dumb down his statements it’s weird you still see things in black and white only and don’t manage to take into account anything outside of this.

The thing is with a struggling side with as many difficulties as we had. We didn’t win many games. Now even the biggest Adel hater cant lay that all at him. His performances in games like the 0-0 at home at City where he tracked Zabelta’s run’s all game would be overlooked if you looked only at your extreme view of ‘pivotal’ roles. Or most for me what sticks in my mind was his performances and obvious passion in the 3-2 loss where he scored a cracker away to WBA. there are so many subtleties here that feed in to the overall picture that you are choosing to ignore or perhaps simply incapable of comprehending.

But if it makes you happy I’ll help answer your question. If you define what ‘Pivotal’ means in a game. You can then help things further and name the three games you think he was pivotal and I’ll add to that list and that can prove another error in your thinking.

He and the club have had a very unstable few years. If there’s any player who needs stability and regular football and stability its Adel.

I believe if he gets that at Benfica I’ll enjoy watching him prove why it was worthwhile having more patience and tolerance with a player like him

Tarnished, and glad to see him go. Nevertheless, there were good times, and I wish him well at Benfica. Despite myself, I'll probably follow his progress at his new club (from a distance). It'll be like watching one of the lesser cars in F1, when you know there's going to be an accident before the end.

Great potential. Wasted. Was over-paid for what he gave us back in return.
He was a joy to watch when playing to his abilities, but that has diminished now.
If he was/is so good an EPL team would have picked him up in a heartbeat.
He's had more chances than he deserved. I'm sorry he couldn't do anything more for us, but he had to go.
We all need to move on and look for another talent who wants to give his all - Charlie Austin has done it, and has EPL clubs falling over themselves to sign him up - when he goes I'll be hoping he continues his success from hard work. Adel? Frankly I don't care anymore what he does.

Good luck Adel. Hope he gets fit enough again. One of the very greatest players ever to play for us. It was a privilege to see him at his best.

I expect he will benefit from getting away from the English football climate, and won't be at all surprised to see him being the huge success he was in England and Italy, again in Portugal and the CL. It is extremely worrying that we have thrown away his huge ability, which European top Clubs value and want, and now let one playing CL take him from us for free! At the same time we seem to struggle to sign anyone other than 2 promising League 1 players.

I think it's a fitting farewell - a thread of divided opinions, arguments and failed attempts to change others' views.
