I doubt there's many mags who think the bloke shouldn't have a statue and the statue is for them and their club.

That bloke is a hero in that strange little city up north, simple as that.

Fair enough mate, you're right .......... after all they already have one for Peter Beardsley on the cathedral.

I think it's to symbolise Newcastle fans banging their heads again a brick wall every time they go in to support the club.

Every time I see the Newcastle club crest I can't help but laugh at the half donkey/half maggot creatures.

What a terrible choice, they're repulsive ...... I wonder if anyone actually has them tattooed on their body.

I know they come from the city's crest but dear me.

...... has the world gone mad?

Someone who won nothing with Newcastle, only other clubs, was the last manager to relegate the club and who regularly criticises them is having a statue erected in his 'honour' ...... surely this is the worst example of clutching at straws since the wolf blew the first little pig's house down <doh>

The statue, which looks like Nigel Pearson after a horrific fire, is to be erected at the ground.

TBH, I'd be horrified if SKP was awarded a statue at the SOL. Yes he won the Golden Boot, caps, etc but he didn't actually win the club anything, much like Shearer. This smacks of the Michael Jackson thing at Fulham to me.

Still, at least it's a nice reminder, for Shearer, of the time he had some hair ..... shame that style was when he was at Blackburn <whistle>

Blinking heck . . . . is that it ? It's now't like Alan Tosser <yikes>

Your description (Nigel Pearson after a horrific fire) seems to be damned accurate, Smug :emoticon-0148-yes:

This is a more accurate 'likeness' to Alan Tosser :afro:

He scored about 150 penalties so do they count ?. Now a statue for Sir Bobby outside Wembley stadium would be brilliant.

Is that the same Bobby Robson hounded out by ur fans ur club **** on him big time. The fact there's a statue of him outside ur ground is only down to the fact he's a local lad who had a great career at other clubs. Bobby was loved around the world just a shame his own people turned on him.

You guys love to trot this out. You make it seem like it was a majority of fans. It wasn't!

There was a small minority who were really abusive, a bigger minority who sang the songs & a majority who wanted him out.

The Newcastle supporters were whipped up into a frenzy by Freddy Shepherd after Newcastle had finished 4th then 3rd ..... 2nd or 1st was surely the next step and when Newcastle could only manage a pitiful 5th the knives were out for Robson. Shepherd was making snide comments, in the press, and encouraging the dissension while, at the same time, lining up Souness to replace him.

I suspect Shepherd had done the same with the players who seemed to lose respect for Robson. Ironically some of those players have since spoken of how they couldn't believe Robson was sacked. It was around that time Shepherd claimed the Newcastle job was one of the top in world football iirc.

After they sacked Robson Souness took them down the league and, a few years later, they were relegated.

I remember those day very well.

.
I find that last bit hard to believe tbh. What have you based that on? Were there any surveys at the time? If you can back that up then fair enough, people are perfectly entitled to think someone else could do a better job, but the majority of Newcastle fans I knew were shocked and gutted at the time when Robson was sacked...

No Smug... I was trying to bait him. Your reasoned and well thought out response is not welcome! <laugh>.

Freddie Shepherd is arguably a bigger cock than Mike Ashley. I wouldn't be surprised if your third paragraph was spot on.

I definitely wasn't a majority of fans though. I was there. I sat in the terraces. A vocal minority (the usual idiots) yes. The majority. No

I nearly cried <laugh>. I was a daft 17 year old twat back then..... As opposed to a daft 28 year old now <laugh>

Probably but I've no intention of trawling back through websites, Chronicle archives etc ........ it's my opinion based on what I saw.

If you don't like it, that much, then prove me wrong.
