As a Saint's Fan I find this Sooooo funny . If I was a Pompey supporter though , I would be Fuming . Yet another sign of the mighty £ overtaking everything else .

Yeah. It's just a colour. Should we go out and paint all the blue things in Southampton red and white?

There's more to life than football...

I remember when Southampton Citybus bought out Portsmouth Corporation Buses back in the Late 80's someone quoted "it was like selling a Nuclear missile to Lybia"

I did sign that petition too. I was quite pleased to see that a few Saints fans and/or Southampton based people didn't want red &white on the tower, but that it should be blue if any colour other than white. I was also pleased to see that the word scummer barely appeared more than once.
Put some blue on the top, leave the middle white, and then the bottom can be red. It'll match a Pompey kit, and keep some red and white. :)

Ok, I think that I have an acceptable solution. Clearly the sponsors are going to insist on their corporate colours, but why not use lighting to diffuse this problem?
I propose that at night, the tower be floodlit in red lights, which will make repainting unnecessary and look highly impressive.
Then, to recognise local sensibilities, the tower could be floodlit using blue lights during the hours of peak daylight. Fair enough?

I have a better solution.

Why don't Emirates build a flippin' big 55,000 stadium about 17 miles West of that tower thing and they can paint it red and white until their hearts' content.

Why would Arsenal want to play in Southampton? <whistle>
