Here's one for ya. Carles Gil from Villa. He came in under Lambert and looked like he might be the key to saving their season, but then disappeared under Sherwood. I thought he looked pretty handy to be honest, though he only played a few games.
Gil was apparently too much of a luxury player for Sherwood, but I agree he looked quality when be first joined. Might well be cheap too.
I forgot about that Gil fella, was he injured or did Sherwood simply not fancy him? Strange that Guzan found himself frozen out as well, he was their player of the year season before and seemed like the kind of guy with the right sort of attitude as well.
It's the shortage of rumours what causes that! Perhaps this will help - Robbie Brady from Hull. RoI LW who can also play at LB. Might be some mileage in this one, though Hull are rumoured to be asking for £15m. £5-6m could be closer to the mark, even with the current PL inflation. http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/Hull...orwich-City/story-26647384-detail/story.html?
£15m would be utterly daft, but around £5m for a young, PL experienced player in a position where we're short would be reasonable. Seems like it would be solid if unspectacular business.
Which is exactly how I think we'll proceed during this window. One reason I think the Ross McCormack thing is dead in the water before it even starts? Can't see McNally sanctioning vast sums of money this window - having been bitten in the wolfswinkel last time around
If we are not careful we could be spending for spendings sake and not actually improving the squad that we have. As I have said previously I don't think we need to add much to survive but another top quality CB is top of my shopping list.
Hmm, wasn't McArthur a team mate of the gaffer at Hamilton? Plus, if Andreu and Vadis are going to be involved, we're almost 'top-heavy' already in central midfield! http://www.sportsmole.co.uk/footbal...ies-consider-james-mcarthur-swoop_226829.html
Media putting two and two together and making five if you ask me. Can't see us spending circa £7M on a player that will be 28 next birthday either Cromer.
I find it quite unbelievable the sort of figures that are being quoted for some players who IMO are no real improvement on what we presently have. I expect nothing much will happen until AN returns from his hols and the future of both Andreu and Vadis is going to be interesting. Also, Thompson from Swindon - especially as he's under 21!!!.
Was Snodgrass ever worth £8m? There's always going to be a premium on players from financially secure but relegated clubs. I'm hoping we're going to see a balance between solid signings and ones with a bit of a wow factor. Brady for example would fill a gap in our squad, is a solid performer in the PL, and his fee plus wages will be within our current structure, very much like Dorrans. Both are low risk signings. But hopefully we'll also be looking for signings that you'd argue should be beyond us, probably from overseas. Fer and RvW were probably in that category. By having the solid signings, hopefully we'll not be screwed over if a high risk signing fails to match expectations.
Go with what we have got, they are winners they beat Watford twice, did not lose to Bournmouth and beat them away, we can do Newcastle and Sunderland and Villa we will be fine I'm confident our current squad can make good account of themselves and don't need a bunch of overpaid mediocre PL players from relegated teams thank you A couple of class loans from the super rich clubs to bolster the back line and top line will do Pocket the cash Delia!
Loans smack of desperation and last-minuteism. I hope the club are not planning on going down that route - unless all else fails. Will loanees bust a gut for the cause like a contracted player would do? Let's ask Antoine
I can't see the point in blowing huge amounts of cash on transfers and wages to bring in players from relegated clubs. We have a number of those in our squad from two seasons ago. It is likely that anyone we bring in will be at the top end of our pay structure and will likely affect squad harmony. If we brought messi in I can't see there being too many players getting the hump because he is paid more but if we start brining in premiership failures on more cash than the lads who took us up I can see there being some fairly hacked off people. I would prefer us to invest in the stadium and Colney and retain a strategic cash reserve to secure the longer term future of the club. We have a huge catchment area and a growing city so the long term should see us invest in the growth of the club rather than blow our windfall on high cost players who still may not be good enough to keep us up.
Fair point Norfolkbhoy, but I'd quite like to see us try to sign Curtis Davies from Hull, as I thought he would have been a good option when we had the opportunity to sign him previously. Other than that - no thanks!!!!
If we are not going down the foreign route I think Brady would be a solid signing. He's still only 23 and yet quite experienced. If we are doing well I'd expect a few goals from him. 6 million would be about right because of his age. Personally I think we have enough solid players (certainly in midfield). We need the extra finishing touches to the squad to make it special.
All the relegated teams have some decent players. Look at our team a year ago we were that team. I wouldn't advocate making all our signings from them and the championship but it shouldn't be discounted. I personally think we should have one eye abroad there are some real bargains to be had, like Tettey, and with our budget we to be successful we have to be smarter and work harder to get a competitive edge.
