So he's the 12th most used player, "multi purpose". In our terms, he's Rory Delap.

A multifaceted defender, useful I'd imagine, especially in a post-Toby Weireld.

Love that machine-translated headline above: "Maxi can get another 4 years in the light". Qhat happens in 4 years time?!

"Right! Time's up Maxi! Eternal darkness for you forever now!"

The Steve Davis role as our attacking midfielder is one of our biggest weaknesses because he can't score. His general play (excluding the last 3-4 months since returning from injury) has been good but if we replaced him with the Swansea lad, Sigurdsson, we would have finished higher up the table.
Cleverly is no way an improvement on anything we already have in the squad IMHO

Opinions! I wonder if Siggy is better at nicking the ball back and keeping the momentum going than Steve Davis??? It's all about ifs and buts and maybes.

What really amazes me is that up until 3 months ago, we'd have been moaning if Steve Davis wasn't available. Football is about the pieces in the jigsaw puzzle doing their part. Of course Davis would be better still if he scored goals, but that just happens not to be his forte.

Makele would have been better if he scored goals for example. He didn't he gave other things.

I'll repeat again what I have said a few times now, Cleverley was not what I wanted, but to those who simply derided him, I am saying he is a far better player than people think.

Bertrand praised Saints and has signed a contract recently and was upset with his treatment at Chelsea (they blocked a move saying they would play him more and didn't), so it would take a very desperate newshound to turn that into a transfer request.

Makele was a DM and not expected to score many but Steve is our attacking midfielder playing in advance of our two DMs so would expect him to score up to 10 goals a season. Lets face it he could have easily scored a hayrick against Spuds at SMS but completely fluffed them all.
He adds a lot to the team in hoovering up the ball in midfield and distributing but there are many box to box midfielders who can also score
