Hooray! Why would we buy someone who isn't as good as any of our squad of midfielders?
Strikes me as a storey made up by the agent to push up his clients wages

I wouldn't have been chasing him, but if he had come, I think he'd have fit in really well. He's like a young Steven Davis.

He's another player who gets some undue stick and probably because he got picked for England too soon. He's not brilliant, but he's better than people think.

We don't need another Davis. We need someone better than Davis so Davis can drop to the bench.

Missed my point Tom. Davis has been excellent for 2 and 3/4 years. One bad quarter .... Cleverly could have stepped into that role and done a better job possibly. You've just underlined my point.

Any way. I wouldn't have craved him, but think he's better than people suggest.

I think you've missed my point. My point is we need to be more ambitious than Cleverley if we are to progress to the next step - finishing top 5 in the PL. And we also need someone better than Davis to achieve this.

Mate, I love all of the New Forest district. And one of the very best things about Southampton is that it is right next door to it.

I used to live in Christchurch and loved the fact I was a couple of miles from the forest. Someone needs to write either a brilliant film set there, or even a Disney cartoon set there around the horses or something. As a soppy teenager I used to dream of writing it :)

No, you HAVE missed my point!! Cleverley is better than people think and could have excelled here. In the right team Cleverley could be superb.

The Steve Davis role as our attacking midfielder is one of our biggest weaknesses because he can't score. His general play (excluding the last 3-4 months since returning from injury) has been good but if we replaced him with the Swansea lad, Sigurdsson, we would have finished higher up the table.
Cleverly is no way an improvement on anything we already have in the squad IMHO

I don't think Cleverley would have added much to our squad either. He would have been an ok back up but not much of an improvement. Having said that........a lot of players that come here often step up a gear because of the way we play. Fonte is a good example of that so who knows?
