Thats what keeping Rodgers gets you. Some very ignorant decisions are being made by people are running our club.
Regret signing up to this thread. Not a single response to my post about Redmond and a bucket load of notifications.
Happened to him? He got relegated with us. Had a decentish season, stellar play-off performances. Keeps being linked with you these last few days, but I thought it was interesting no-one even mentioned it here. Suggests lazy journalism based on a year ago
I don't have a problem with us signing Ings and Milner. Both good players. Ings to be a solid backup who can put away chances and Milner to challenge for the water carrier action man Henderson/Can role in CM. What will annoy me, is if those are perceived as the solutions to our midfield and striker problems though because although upgrades on some of our squad, they're not good enough to push us higher than where we are. Hopefully some to be shipped out and another quality midfielder and striker to come in.
Some players do actually value playing time over money...although I know that's hard to believe in the City/Chavski era of wages and signings.
Happened as in he was being talked about a lot even before you guys got promoted but hardly hear of him now.
Totally agree, although I do actually think Milner is good enough to push us forward. Think he's a cracking player and very underrated. 7 league goals this season despite not a lot of playing time, he'd be 1 of our top scorers this year with those stats. But agree on the other points, if we get a quality CF to go with Ings then happy enough.
I think that's simply about not being in the PL. The Press gives you no attention . If his form holds up now we're back in the PL the chatter will too
Why do people think Milner will be a squad player? He will be a first 11 regular. My concern is not Ings and Milner, it is Benteke, because Benteke is not a Rodgers style player, which makes me think he is not Rodgers choice. Rodgers has said time and time again that all signings must fit his vision. Sturridge fits it and has been a success, Suarez was aperfect fit and incredible. Balotelli did not fit at all and failed. Our system rellies on pacey strikers who run behind, not target men. When Sterling played as a striker our style instantly improved because he ran behind. Even though he struggled himself to score goals his runs gave Coutinho and Lallana some thing to work off. It made Rodgers system click a bit better again. Coutinho was crap when Balotelli was his striker target and Lallana was none existent. We all no Rodgers did not want Balotelli but the club betrayed Rodgers and signed him, and because Balotelli did not fit our style it caused big problems. Balotelli is a better striker than Sterling when the team he is in plays to his strengths, but our squad is built to require a certain type of striker, so playing the wrong type of striker hinders it almost fatally. Benteke does not fit our style because he is a target man. He runs more than Balotelli but is not the flexible runner that Coutinho and Lallana love to work off. As a result I feel things will continue to not click if Benteke becomes our main striker. Ings does fit our style because he is quick, runs in behind and is flexible. He does not seem to be as good at scoring goals, and is not as skillfull as SAS, but I'm certain he will get better form out of Coutinho and Lallana than Benteke. Part of me has more confidence in Ings than Benteke. Personally I say signs Ings and one of Jovetic, Tevez or Lavezzi. Partner one of those three with Sturridge, Ings or Origi and our style will click much more than Benteke up top alone. Hopefully Sturridge will have better luck with injuries next season, but if not, Ings could be a reliable deputy with a good skill team around him. If the club are going to carry on with Rodgers they must continue to support and invest in his vision. Saying 'you ca stay but we are going to make you do things different' is pointless.
So 32 appearances in 38 games, it would seem he is used quite a bit in fact your figures average at 54 mins/game.
Milner is currently on £90k. Him turning down an offer of £15k more to stay at city doesn't make him some hard working professional who is interested in getting minutes. If he was, he wouldn't have wasted his prime years sitting on the bench. And don't forget - he'll be getting a handsome signing on fee which will more than cover the lost £15k. I don't actually have a problem with Milner believe it or not. If he was a squad player, then I get it. But I think he'll be a first teamer and I don't see what else he brings than Can or Henderson cannot - and on the reported astronomical wages. It just smacks of wasteful spending, the same level of spending we all complain about except it's in the form of wages and not initial transfer fee ala Lovren. We continue to overspend on players who 'marginally' improve the team, and in some cases, don't offer anything. The sooner we get a DOF in, the better because this level of spending cannot continue.
