His wife was fine while he was playing for us, so that is no excuse.
I could tell myself in his last season at ManUre that he was finished at the top level.
It is a shame that our coaching team did not have a clue.
If his wife was healthy, then everyone on this forum would be saying piss off Rio.
He reminded me of when we signed Gus Caesar on loan.

BBH You don't know his wife was fine or any of the facts about his wife. All you have done is read some tabloid and believed it. These were actually his words:
"I admit I felt guilty that I was letting the club down in our relegation fight. None of the lads knew what was going on because I didn't tell them."
You are shooting yourself in the foot on this. You made some stupid comments and need to let it go.

Although his time with us was destined to be a complete failure (why oh why did TF sanction this move by HR) I feel a great deal of sympathy for someone who has lost his life-partner - I know what devastation this would cause in my own household - so I hope he bounces back into some form of either management or punditry.

BBH, your lack of compassion does you no favours, no matter how you felt about him as a player, he has a life outwith of the football arena, as do we all, and as said above, I hope you never need to rely on the support of others, as Rio has had to do.

good luck rio
now if its true his wife only became sick in march what excuse does he have for being crap till then
and bbh is right
if his wife was still alive everyone would be giving rio ****

go and spend lots of quality time with the kids rio

glad he feels guilty :emoticon-0148-yes: and that is me finished :emoticon-0126-nerd:

It's remarkable how brave some people are when sat behind a keyboard posting things they wouldn't have the balls to say to others faces.......your comments are totally callus and tasteless....yes he should have retired last summer but HR & TF were at fault then. ..but that doesn't excuse your comments.
In the circumstances we believe that a ban is appropriate and we have requested the super mods put it in place as soon as possible.

Not that it makes any difference in terms of basic human decency, but Rio's wife had been diagnosed with breat cancer, and been treated for it, over a year ago, well before he joined QPR. It was thought she had beaten it and was in remission, but clearly not. Her rapid decline in March was a surprise and must have been, and continue to be, very traumatic to all those close to her.

She wasn't diagnosed until march, so whats the excuse he has before that?

Diagnosed isn't the same as being ill....maybe she was suffering by being sick, lethargic and any other amount of symptoms which he had to deal with prior to her diagnosis. No doubt she had the best medical help money can buy, but that still doesn't help someone who is terminally ill. I hope and pray (even though I don't believe in any higher being) that all you who are slating this man for having to deal with these extremely personal issues never have to deal with a situation that is anyway near similar and that your families live long, pure and prosperous lives.

You Sir have my utmost respect for that post.

Rio was one of the best defenders world wide of our time and I know he wanted to play with total commitment for us but couldn't focus properly on his game since just after he signed for us for reasons known. Family is more important than football, no matter how big a star you are. Nothing but respect and admiration for the man and would like to wish him and his family all the best for the future.

Right so why did you post the comments that you did?

To play devil's advocate, maybe his wife's illness isn't an acceptable reason for such a loss in performance. Could you or I under-perform THAT much at work for so long under the same circumstances and get away with it (professionally I mean).

Probably not but this also coincided with a decline in the standards he had previously set due to age and injuries. ...
but that is again back to the daft decision to sign him in the first place.

Because I cannot feel sorry for a rich footballer who let our club down badly.
I still have to go to work full time for a crap wage and if I dont give 100%, I will be replaced by a waiting Polish worker on minimum wage.
Does anybody else give a **** because I am not famous.

No but it is your total lack of human decency that doesn't do you any favours. ....

...get those McCains off your shoulders, they'll make your blouse greasy!

My mum and dad both had cancer.
It is a **** life but you have to live with it.

My parents have too, but I doubt it would have anywhere near the same impact as if my wife had, and I had to deal with the issues that that raises on a daily basis and still keep my mind on raising my family and providing an income for them by giving 100% at my place of work. Full credence to you if you can completely seperate your personal life from your professional life - to me family will ALWAYS be more important than any job, whether it be plumbing some ones bathroom, delivering someones mail or performing in front of thousands on a Saturday for a football team.

Yes, Rio should've retired at the end of last season, but to vilify him for the rapid decline of the health of his partner is wrong on all levels.

Exactly - Talk about two birds with one stone.

Rio Ferdinand deal will lift whole club, says QPR manager Harry Redknapp
Exclusive: Manager confident former England defender's arrival will have positive impact and persuade Steven Caulker to sign from Cardiff

“The prospect of playing with Rio Ferdinand in the centre of defence is something that will appeal to the lad. He’s a young player and he can only improve playing alongside somebody as experienced as Rio.

“If you look at Gary Cahill he has improved massively playing with John Terry and I believe Rio can do the same for Caulker. That’s a deal we would really like to get done.” QPR are also weighing up a bid for Norwich City midfielder Leroy Fer as Redknapp attempts to strengthen his squad ahead of the Premier League season."
