Seems it's a done deal, bookies were on this all along, keep McLaren at an odds where no-one would bother, but allow juuuuuust enough leeway to allow for other bets to land. Telegraph reporting this tonight, peeps. Well, at least it's not Carver. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...ted-ready-to-make-Steve-McClaren-manager.html
I personally think McClaren is a done deal and has been for weeks. Now it looks like they may add Lee Clark to their useless coaching staff. Yet another Great winner, although he is one of us so that must be ok.
Think I might find a new sport to take interest in on a Saturday Afternoon if McClaren takes charge, no optimism for next season whatsoever!!
He wouldn't have been my choice, but if he is who we have then I'll get behind him. If that is who has been chosen then he needs to be given time to do the job before the placards come out (and one season isn't time). As I've said before, he's not a disaster. There are far worse options out there - and on the shortlist - such as Carver and Laudrup.
We are not only getting one of the best coaches in the business but also the finest quiff in captivity.
I'm not as distraught as some on the Internet, Mcclaren is a good coach, and a better man manager than most give him credit for. Overall I do believe he's an improvement over Pardew who lost the dressing room a few times and saw the greatest loss of talent in some of our best players. He's got a okay record, he's an okay manager, it's just a shame about the finances... Might see us win a derby one of these days too.
Us Sunderland fans are very happy at the moment with the breaking news. DA is staying on, better than all the other candidates, he already knows the players, what needs to be done, he's already been working on Transfers with our DOF, we've gone from being behind in preparations to ahead.
That's probably the best option for you in the short term, by a mile. Both our clubs need a period of stability.
By miles the best option, hence the happiness. Only one year apparently but hopefully we'll be in a much better position by the end of next season and have a better pick of candidates
I think Dick is a good fit It'll only work though if Ellis changes his running of the club. He gets none of the Ashley type ****e, but is hardly a beacon of backing. He has made it difficult for the last few. I don't Advocaat would take much **** at his age. So you'd have to assume he is going to get the money to get the 3 or 4 quality signings he thinks they need.
He's confirmed money is there for a rebuild. Best Head Coach available to us, money to spend and we've gone from being behind on preparations to back on track because Dick has been working with our DoF on transfer targets since safety was achieved. It's the best possible outcome for us. Landed on our feet here, shame it can't guarantee improvement, but I think it's given us the best chance possible.
He had Cheik Tiote at FC Twente and I'm thinking he could get him back to his best and will also be familiar with Siem De Jong and Daryl Janmaat. I'm becoming more at ease about the appointment now.
Any appointment other than Carver for us, represents change. With change we will have hope and we, as fans will at least go into the start of the season in a positive frame of mind (assuming we strengthen- which we will).
McClaren is hardly an inspired choice, more like cheap and lack of other offers. He must be laughing his socks off at a chance to be at a PL club ""Beginning his coaching career at the Manor Ground, he returned to Derby County in 1995 as assistant to Rams boss Jim Smith, moving on to Old Trafford in 1999. Serving under Alex Ferguson for two years, his first managerial role came at the Riverside in 2001. Five seasons at the smoggies saw a League Cup Final win, UEFA Cup Final loss and a seventh place finish in the 2004/05 Premier League - his only top ten placing. Succeeding Sven Adult Books as England manager in 2006, McClaren lasted just 16 months with the national side, exiting after a failure to qualify for Euro 2008. 2008 saw him announced as the new coach of Dutch Eredivise club FC Twente and he secured runner's up and first place finishes in two seasons there, achieved with a team including future Magpie Cheick Tiote. Opting to try his luck in Germany, McClaren lasted less than one season at Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg and was sacked during February 2011. Returning to England with Championship side Nottingham Forest for the 2011/12 season, a disastrous start at the City Ground saw him ousted by October, agreeing to a second spell in charge of FC Twente early in 2012. Failing to recapture the form of his previous spell though, the partnership was dissolved in February 2013 and a brief period of punditry was followed by a short-term role on Harry Redknapp's QPR coaching staff. Replacing Nigel Clough as Derby County manager early in the 2013/14 season, McClaren steered the Rams to third place in his first season before losing to QPR at Wembley in the Championship playoff decider. Topping the Championship table various times between October and December 2014, Derby were again in pole position during late February but finished the season in eighth - collecting just 12 points from a possible 39. Amid claims that a failure to fully dismiss speculation over replacing Alan Pardew at Newcastle had undermined his side, McClaren was sacked by the Rams in late May - just ten months after signing a new three year deal."
