I hope Rodgers is just bluffing when he says they expect him to see out his last 2 years in order to not admit they are happy to sell and therefore be held to ransom over price.

I don't want him at the club for next 2 years and leaving on a free thanks.

Of course and neither will the club. they'll want as much cash as possible. I have faith they'll get the best solution for us, they aren't idiots

Yeah but probably get about 5m which is near enough nothing

It would make a statement to stop players thiking about pissing about in the future though. Plus, £5m (I think it would be more) would cover our costs too; £35k per week x 52wks x 2yrs = £3.64m

If true, why didn't the club pay QPR off a couple of years ago? Like Spurs did with Saints on the Bale deal?
Saints were in major financial trouble at the time and needed any cash they could get their hands on.

But it would deter potential targets coming to Liverpool in the future ...

Lets hope QPR get kicked out of football because of their refusal to pay the FFP fine previously :)

Wouldnt do much for morale and although yes would cover costs, we'd get no transfer fee for him.

Rather take 20m now than have him in the squad for next 2 years.

Im 90% sure riders is saying it as a bluff. If he'd said well we aren't sure if he'll stay etc, clubs will come in with low bids and we'd be stuck in shot situation.

Possibly. Not saying this is my preferred option, I'd prefer we told him to ****off now.

Agree.

I think emotions are running high which has led to some overreaction from some sections of support. But letting him rot for 2 years in the reserves is simply not feasible.

Which bit are you referring to - the fee that we could command, or our ability to find 2 decent replacements? Or both ...
The fee, but now that you mention it...<laugh>
A Pre-FFP City might have paid that much for him possibly, but no one will pay that much for him now.
I can think of atleast a dozen better players I would want to sign that would cost similar amounts.

I think you're forgetting how ridiculously overpriced young British players are. Actually will go in our favour this time. Luke Shaw went for 35mil, Sterling will command at least 40.

You can't make a player sit out years on his contract due to a dispute, I'm fairly sure there's a precedent for it.

Not saying that Sterling is worth it but for one of the best talents in world football plus he's English - £40-50m is what we should be looking for.

Also, Platini has relaxed FFP rules next season - expect clubs like City to spend massively.

I know, for one of the best talents in world football that would be a fair price.
But we are talking about Sterling.
I think £30m max
