Has this been announced yet? Just read that it might be O'Shea. Could be a good decision as long as Brucie explains the reasons in a sensitive way to Catts Thoughts?
O'Shea would make a terrific captain, not sure Cattermole had or will have enough game time to merit it.
I would leave it with Cattermole. He had enough to warrent being made captain last summer so what has changed and it would be a boost to the lad if Brucie came out and backed him. Would be harsh to take it off him and if he does how will that go down with Catts
The problem is that Catts is a liability and needs to learn once he is on a booking he has to stay on his feet. Maybe he could captain the team again when he shows a bit more maturity.
I would give it to O'Shea...He seems far more level headed than Catts, and is also used to the winning mentality of Man U, which he will hopefully pass on to the rest of our comparitively young squad.

To be fair to catts I think he learned his lesson at wigan. he pulled out of a fair few challenges in games after that where he would usually just go straight through the opponent. My question is what position does O'shea start? the only position id consider him first choice for is right back. I say stick with Catts.
Leave it with Catts, not in favour of just giving it to a new recruit just because of who he played for in the past. He has to earn it, and so far hasn't even kicked a ball for us.
For me the Captain should lead by example. Call me old fashioned but he gets just to many cards, waranted or not!

Neither had Cana and he was a fantastic leader... I think the Daily Mail is just bullshitting itself again about "Cattermole being upset" - Bruce has managed him before and knows how he works - I like Cattermole and think he is one of our most under-rated players but O'Shea's experience may be good for the youngsters in the squad. Unless you do a Zenden style thing and have a club captain and a team captain (although I don't really understand this concept - a captain is a captain in my book). I'll be very surprised f Catts "throws his toys out of the pram" over this - If O'Shea looks the part in training thenhe gets the job... (IMO!!)
I love the Daily Mail - no quotes from anywhere and no contact with any player or manager but Cattermole is going to be upset!!! I personally think he'll take it the right way if it happens - it'll let him get on with his game which is what a lot of us said to do last season
For me I would leave it with Cattermole. True O'Shea has a wealth of experience but as far as I am aware he has not been a captain at anytime. There is of course one thing we have all overlooked and that is with all the new signings will Cattermole be a regular first choice starter. One thing for certain is O'Shea will be and is that in Brucies mind.
Will Catts be with us at the start of the season though - was a bit of talk about him moving on earlier in the window, with all the midfielders we`ve signed will he be guaranteed a start? Don`t want him to leave but we could survive without him (IMO). Maybe SB is aware of enquiries...time will tell
Bruce has got nothing but good things to say about Catts, he's going nowhere and I would imagine would be one of the 1st few names on the starting sheet each week. For me, he should stay captain, I like his fight, and with a few more seasons as captain under his belt can only help us improve.
I remember when Catts had been injured, can'temember who we were playing, but amazingly, we got a rare injury after about 23 seconds, and Catts came on, was his first game back after injury i recall. Titus had the armband, Catts ran straight to Bramble, pointed at the band and said 'give'. I thought this was class, his attitude of 'that's my ****ing armband' is exactly what a captain should be, Bally-esqe you could say.
That was cany rare mate, usually well within the first 10 seconds! ... We must have done well that day!

No one was quoted then either but they had it spot on. Hard as it is, you simply have to accept that while rotten journalists exist, like rotten every other occupation, sometimes good journalists have sources they cannot quote but whose info is reliable. I hope so in this case because while Cattermole could and should be a great or t least very good player, his disciplinary record is disgraceful (even when it got better, it was often down to good luck that he avoided cards) and he is hardly a fabulous example off the field.
