We have a tougher match away to City than either Spurs (Everton) or Liverpool (Stoke). On the other hand, both teams are dropping points. In the end we have to win and Liverpool lose to jump over them and at least draw and Spurs lose to jump over them. Seventh is the most likely...so close and yet so far...5th was easily attainable, but that's life.

Permutations:

Table reminder

5 - Liverpool +9 62pts
6 - Tottenham +4 61pts
7 - Southampton +23 60pts

Fixtures

Everton vs Spurs
Man City vs Saints
Stoke vs Liverpool

All tough away games, although against teams with nothing significant to play for (assuming Utd don't lose)

If Spurs & Liverpool both fail to win then victory at City will give Southampton 5th.

5th is automatic qualification to Europa league group stage.

If Arsenal win cup, then 6th is automatic qualification to
Group stage and 7th qualifies for third round qualification stage commencing 30th July

If Villa win cup, then 6th qualifies for qualification stage and 7th gets you nowt.

How great would it be to finish above both Spurs and Liverpool? Surely too much to hope for?

Can never be really disappointed with 7th (if that is where we finish) after such an enjoyable season, but there is still that little feeling of...if only. This season was a great chance to do even better when United, Liverpool, and Spurs all underperformed. Do I think we are better than those 3 teams....yes, I do this season (especially when you consider the relative cost of the squads).

Who would have thought, dared dream we'd be having this thread at the start of the season. Regardless where we finish it's been a brilliant season & I'm so pleased & excited of where we are & what we CAN achieve now & next season. 7th probably but I really think we can "steal" a draw & if spuds slip up, it's 6th. Would be the absolute icing on the cake if we could win & both liverwho & spuds slip up ! COYS

I'm calling it now, It's fate, we will finish 5th. The football gods have set this up as irony for all the greed and glory hunting last summer.

I see where you're heading. If BT is covering Europa league matches, is it really worth to qualify to that competition and suffer Michel Owen's dreadful commentary?

Ha ha but imagine if you are tired and need to get a good nights sleep. That's hard after a Saints game, but Owen would help you sleep better.

Reckon we'll get seventh.
Two facts support this: 1. we don't get first prize in whatever league competition we're in, including mini leagues; 2. I don't think we can beat City with Gazzaniga in goal. We may score, despite Joe Hart's immense current form, but we will also concede.
