I'm in L'pool on 11th Aug leaving there on the 14th, worked out well for me that the game stays on the Sat; Anyone know if and when the ticket's will go on general sale for this game. A mate is trying for ticket's in the L'pool section, I'd rather be in our section if possible. Having sat with the Man Citeh fans when they were still at Maine Road watching us, I don't really want to be doing that again.
Liverpool fans are ok actualy if worst comes to worse and you have to sit with them, we get on well with them in my experience, and if you get a stadium plan, it's easy to get tickets right next to the away fans anyway, you want Anfield Road End, block 123 I have no idea why i know this off the top of my head!
Thanks BB will keep that in mind, besides I won't be surprised if any tickets will be left from the allocation for us fairweather follower's who can only muster up a game when on holiday etc; So if it's the L'pool section then so be it, don't think I'll chance wearing my top though...... Will keep tabs with the Club's O/W.
Ok maybe i was a bit strong with my wording. I just feel the price of going to an away friendly is rather astronomical considering the standard of football your going to see. Fair enough gate prices are reduced but you still have to think of travel costs and possibly staying somewhere overnight, food, drink (alcohol) and other miscellaneous spending. Considering most teams field weakened sides to get everyone in the squad up to match sharpness i dont think the end justifies the means. I also note SAFC never have home friendlies. Newcastle always have one or two home friendlies normally against similar quality teams e.g villareal, sporting lisbon, marseille to name a few over the last few years. This can only be win win for the club as you get a fair amount of people through the door who have been starved of football over the summer and it raises the profile of the club across europe. Also many kids will get in for a fiver or less and these are the fans the club needs to be targeting get more kids through the turnstiles and they are here for 60+ years. I see much more benefit in doing something like this as oppose to going to Victoria Park or Bootham Crescent. (If York still play their) If you win at these grounds people say "oh well so you should beat lower league clubs" and they would be right to say it. Lose and morale both in the players and fans is destroyed. Lets not forget these lower league teams who are our neighbours will be going all out to get one over us and injuries could also be picked up. I just wish the club would use a bit of nouse when organising friendlies. I stand to be proven wrong but i only recall 2 friendlies ever being played at the SoL, The Ajax game for the stadium opening and quinnies testimonial (which was a post season thing and helped Ireland prepare for their world cup campaign if i remember). Oh sorry forgot England V Belgium years ago lol.
Agree about the home friendlies mate can't even remember them at Roker Park either maybe it's a Sunderland thing who knows. To be honest they are meaningless games and used to try out formations etc. to see how they work. I've been to quite a few over the years and they are a good laugh as nobody is too concerned about the result and so everybody is relaxed and enjoying the day out wherever it is.
We should set up something with Athletic Bilbao im sure we have some historic connection with them one year they come here the next we go their, could also work out nicely to get a few signings from them. Come to think of it im sure we have a similar connection with Juventus, If someone could confirm this it would be great so if we do we could do the same thing with them.
I'm missing the first couple of games, I'm going to a thing called 'World Youth Day' in Madrid on the 11th August, and I don't come back for a couple of weeks. I'll have no internet connection and no free time, there will be two and a half million people there!
Liverpool rarely sell out, but first game of season, and big signings, i imagine it will. The away end will be rammed, of course
Sorry for delay in reply BB, I'll hold you to that, hope your right for I would much prefer to be in the away end. As already mentioned will keep an eye on the club's O/W and if no announcement about general sale in the next few days, then I will start to panic and give them a call.
