Just said on Talk Sport that if the test was positive after a match it is different to one at home or at training and a 2 year ban is the punishment.

(Sorry, Lambro, posted before I had read your post).

He clearly knows the risks , how fun is this drug in the confines of a dark room alone ?
Who was he snorting this with ? either very trusted "friends" or other players (not necessarily at our club) who
if leaked have the same to lose .

Personally ive no real issue with the drug , but for his position , our club position and a sportsman its just twatty

Definitely.

The finger is now pointing at our whole squad. That may be unfair but its true. He's done it with mates he may deny that but again its true. We're probably down anyway but he would have played if fit tomorrow and that is unforgivable.

But when the dust settles, I would give him a second chance. I believe in rehabilitation so as long as he makes a full apology and does the necessary work to realise what a **** he's been, then give him a second chance.
He may be an arrogant prick and got caught up in the millionaire lifestyle or he may have not been coping with the pressure of being a top footballer, the psychological/mental strength is what sets the great players apart. A lot have turned to booze or drugs to cope.

I've just checked the FA rule book. A 2 year ban is mandatory for use of an illegal drug during season. He's played his last game for us.

"Presence, use, possession

42. Subject to the provisions of Regulations 43 and 64 - 81 (inclusive), for a violation committed by a Player under Regulation 3 (the presence of a Prohibited Substance), Regulation 4 (the use/attempted use of a Prohibited Substance/Prohibited Method), or Regulation 10 (possession) the following penalties must be imposed;

(a) for a first violation – 2 years suspension; and

(b) for repeated violations – refer to the table at Regulation 51 . "

After this season I think he was going anyway but at least before this we might have got a decent fee for him. If the club sack him does that mean nothing in return 8 million wasted?

I read that wrong, that's for a performance enhancing drug I think. There is no mention of using a social drug during competition time but out of competition carries a maximum 6 month suspension for first violation.

Although if any other of our players test positive for anything the club will be charged and most likely face a points deduction.

Edit: Cocaine is listed under 'prohibited' rather than 'social drugs'. I guess that means he'll have a mandatory 2 year ban? Unless in competition means he's under the influence during the game, and that's what he did?

If you say so
